is Lae'zel necessary for the plot?
so, I don't know how I managed it, but I somehow completely missed Lae'zel in the opening area after the crash. I kept going, thinking maybe I'd meet with her later, but then friends corrected me. to be honest, I kinda want to see what the game is like with a major party member missing. will I be hindered by her absence, or can I go on with this experiment?

How can you miss her in the cage on the way to the first dungeon?
Easy, you take a right turn from the nautolid and go to the crypt through the door rather than through the open area. After clearing the dungeon you need to rest, so you go to camp and then port back out to your next quest.

I had this happen to me on one of the runs and I already cleared the goblin camp when I realized, OMG I completely forgot to pick her up ^^

I never take the back door entrance down there after realizing you cant reach the upper level of the dungeon, because the button to open the door is in the upper part.

I think a Gith Oath of Vengeance Paladin is more in tune with their supposed prodigous psychic powers and zealotry. Though youd want to complete Laezel's story because youd get a Silver Sword of the Astral plane for doing it, a legendary version of the the earlier blades and very powerful in the hands of a gith. Personal suggestion, respec Laezel to a cleric of Vlaakith.
You can get the Silver Sword in Act 1 and it can make your Gith fighter much more effective through the rest of the game.

Hrm, seems you with very specific conditions can cheese Voss to drop it with a command use.

Though I should note he have two swords

https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Voss'+Silver+Sword
Its the legendary one Laezel may get for her quest finale.

Yup.
Command him to drop his weapon first (was just 12% chance in my last playthru, so save scumming was needed) and then either do a rather tough fight with the Gith or else use invis/sneak to pick up the dropped weapon. Its not too hard to do if its not your first playthu so have the hang of game mechanics.

Reminds me of nabbing the flaming sword from the cambion on the nautliloid. But to reaffirm, its the legendary sword he can drop and not the epic one?

Oh, I don't think I've seen the non-Astral Plane version. I've got a sword from Voss twice in playthrus of Act 1 and both times got the Astral Plane one. At least I'm fairly sure I did but you have me doubting myself now.

From what I can see is that you can only command drop it if Voss actually have it equipped, he may sometimes only have his crossbow active. So you need to have a save before you approach the bridge and trigger the event spawning.

No, I kill her every playthrough.

I deal with enough angry women at work.

Fextralife have a very interesting bit about the gith swords:
Sword can be used with full buffs on ANY RACE while looking like yourself, disguise self gith, equip sword, break disguise it will even persist through long rests only downside is you cant unequip it without dropping the buff. To fix this simply disguise gith and reequip. Further research has shown you lose the buff upon leveling up or respecing at withers also you cannot even click it in inventory or you lose the buff, further testing is underway but an easy way to fix losing the buff as ANY CLASS is using the helmet from the deluxe upgrade/edition to disguise self and then just unequip and reequip the blade.

Feeling strongly tempted to do a Gith Eldritch Knight now.

I killed her in my first playthrough but never finished because I had missed a lot. I had her in my party in 2nd playthrough but never used her but didn't finish the playthrough because a mod was doing unwanted things in the game. I got to Baldurs Gate in this playthrough and she was still in the party.

I am now on my third playthrough and I intend to finish it. I used her most of the time which was interesting. I did not try to woo her so she came onto me. I am playing a female character so experienced an interesting sex scene. I have now just left Moonrise Tower about to do mission for Z'rell and Lazreal has decided to permanently leave the party to go to the creche. I could have went with her but didn't bother.

On my next playthrough I think I will do her missions. I take it will have to go through mountain pass to do this? Every playthrough so far I have gone the underdark route.

Nope. I killed her on my first playthrough for being a rude idiot just like I killed Astarion for trying to shank me and nothing of value was lost.
