is Lae'zel necessary for the plot?
so, I don't know how I managed it, but I somehow completely missed Lae'zel in the opening area after the crash. I kept going, thinking maybe I'd meet with her later, but then friends corrected me. to be honest, I kinda want to see what the game is like with a major party member missing. will I be hindered by her absence, or can I go on with this experiment?

So how far are you? You can play without her, but imo she is one of the best origin characters.

You can go on but then who will be driven to madness by the smell your murder hobo sweat?

Not really. My first run I actually kill lae'zel

Sounds like you missed the cage where she was hanging, or killed her to save the tieflings.

No, you wont be hindered by her absense. The only plot critical one is Shadowheart whom you get 3 chances to pick up, and if you refuse those, an event happen to give you the artifact.

Doesn't she literally find you in the ship? I wasnt aware of it even being optional.

But yes. IMO, she is essential.

No, she is not essential, he is talking of the crash area on the beech where you can discover her hanging in a cage held by the tieflings. They say she plowed through a squad of them before they managed to overpower her.

Oh yeah. Forgot about that.

Things that are essential to the plot:

- The player character gets to the end

i missed her in the cage too in my first play through. Youll meet back up with her at the bridge with the other gith and have an option for her to join you again.

How can you miss her in the cage on the way to the first dungeon?

My last-but-one playthrough was without her (and another lead character) to see what happened. It was OK, just missed some non-essential bits of the story.

However, I do find a Githyanki fighter with a Silver Sword in Act 1 and onward very, very useful and so do recommend playing as this character type as your main.

I think a Gith Oath of Vengeance Paladin is more in tune with their supposed prodigous psychic powers and zealotry. Though youd want to complete Laezel's story because youd get a Silver Sword of the Astral plane for doing it, a legendary version of the the earlier blades and very powerful in the hands of a gith. Personal suggestion, respec Laezel to a cleric of Vlaakith.

when you long rest she gets out of the cage on her own and is gone, i had bypassed her for a bit because of the approval hit with shadowheart

In my current run I refused to let her join the party.

Later i found her dead body at the end of act 1. And in Act 1.5 (Mountain Pass). And at the start of Act 2.

I don't know who is going around moving her dead body! Maybe someone is delibertately putting it in my path to guilt me for not taking her.
