I'm bummed that I ended up in a fight to the death with my #1 absolute favorite NPC companion from BG1/2.

You didn't have to. You chose to.

I saw somewhere that her "good arc" is not canon
(i didn't play previous BG so i can't say if it's true or not)

You could've given her what she wanted instead of fighting.

Well, I could have given her Shadowheart I guess, but I wasn't going to do that.

It did seem like maybe she was supposed to survive the battle after getting dropped to zero health? But if so, it didn't happen. She was in the middle of my Hunger of Hadar and died before I could stop the spell.

Aha! OK, luckily I had dropped a save pretty late in that fight. I went back and reloaded it, then finished the fight again. This time she didn't end up inside the Hunger of Hadar, and she survived the fight. I was able to talk to her after.

Much more satisfying. I did let her walk away this time. It was that Hunger of Hadar finishing her off the first time that made me think I didn't have a choice here.

She gets a save against death to give her a chance for a final speech with Shadowheart. You can choose to spare Viconia, but you miss out on sweet loot.

I absolutely despise the Sharran cult, and Viconia is just a blind puppet of Shar. Off with the head!

The shield looked nice.

Eh, for nostalgia RP purposes I'll probably go forward with the save where I let her walk away. But now I have both saves, so I guess it's my choice which one to use.

I'm pretty sure I murdered her in BG2.
