Loot is shared, so no individual rolls.
If playing on multiple devices, there is a way to play involving buying a single copy, but its not as simple as using Steam Offline Mode. It is doable, though ultimately I decided not to because BG3 would be quite taxing on our secondary PC.
You're expected to control four characters, but can split up control of them however you like - make sure to do this at the start of each session since the game itself doesn't save this setting.
The player who triggers an event, conversation, etc is the player who usually gets to make the choices and skill checks related to it, so if one player is playing at a faster pace than the other, they might end up hogging these opportunities.
If looking for a DnD 5e based game that sticks to core rules more with a heavier focus on combat and lighter focus on everything else, consider Solasta over BG3. I personally haven't been able to enjoy BG3 much because of how liberal the devs were in homebrewing various DnD mechanics leading to a ton of overpowered ways to play, that didn't feel like actual DnD combat to me. Solasta tries to cover a lot less with its limited budget and limited permissions on the DnD license, but does a better job with what they did have access to, in my opinion.
Thank you for this feedback! very helpful!
