Why are all the Origin characters cis?

I know this will be a matter of personal opinion, especially as there are some people in this forum aggressively arguing that the game should be cis-normative and hetero-normative, but it's a great disappointment to me that after a relatively inclusive character creator that doesn't try to tie gender to body type, genitalia, or voice, that you get into the game and every last one of your major allies are cisgendered with no noticeably open trans or non-binary NPCs for at least a significant chunk of the game. The game would have felt a lot more inclusive to me if it had included a trans or openly nonbinary characteramong the major party members.

As it stands the amazing mod support has allowed me to mod Gale into being transmasc (which was just what made the most sense to me, your millage may vary), but it would still be nice to be included among the ;people allowed to save the world' bu default.

For starters, it's "cis" as it comes from Latin, and it means, quite literally "on this side/on the same side as". It was used in Roman times.
I would know, my language is a direct successor from Latin, and before I decided I wanted to go into Computer Engineering, I bagged a Bachelors in Linguistics. I can't begin to tell you how amazing etymology is.

I suggest you don't try to discuss Latin with anyone that is Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, or even Romanian (which derives from Lower Latin).

Second, it's not illegal in my country of origin or in the country I currently live in, so kindly leave me alone. In fact, the word is NOT illegal in the entirely of the EU (UK excluded, they're not part of the EU anymore).
Would be interesting to see the EU outlawing LATIN. What next? Outlaw Portuguese and Spanish because of "negro"?

"cis" and "trans" are only slurs because the anglosphere turned them into slurs.

You have seven people that join you in a medieval esq fantasy setting of the sword coast. The odds of them being trans is a very small dice roll. Life imitates art or the other way around etc... etc... This is such a non issue and the game has spent a ridiculous amount of resources catering to a very vocal minority already. If it hadn't they probably could of spent it on better game content or maybe even a GM mode instead this kind of incessant whining is considered and catered too and yet still you whine. Do shut up.

To be blunt about it, nobody really cared for decades until fairly recently. My grandparents generation had some issues with this stuff, but the actual boomers (my parents generation) largely didn't care and had a live and let live attitude about it. A gay guy obviously does not want to do it with girls and likely finds that idea repugnant. The same thing applies to the overwhelming amount of straight guys when it comes to the idea of being with men.

The thing is that non-heterosexual people all together make up a little less than 5% of the population. That includes every flavor combined. The problem is when you say have a show or game or something like that with a limited cast of characters and limited run time. Now all of a sudden they want to represent the different flavors of that small percentage so you wind up with a huge amount of the actual content being not for, or outright repulsive, to the overwhelming majority of the audience. If you say want to represent the femme lesbians, the butch lesbians, the macho gay men, the femme gay men, the transexuals in several different directions, etc... all in a specific product or even a block of product (like a series of programs on a network) you wind up with only a small majority of the content being directed at the majority of consumers.

The problem isn't "people have difficulty with the 5% existing" it's that people don't want massive amounts of what's produced to be aimed directly at them at the expense of what most people want.

To be fair it is a tricky logistical issue, especially with the political idea that "everyone deserves to be represented". When your dealing with such diversity among that 5% it's tricky to show specific groups within that, while making sure the majority of people are represented. After all, outside of specific places and situations the 5% is actually more or less invisible, or at least not sexually outrageous.

The problem with Larian is that they sort of went too far with having too many tiny groups all being represented, to the point where the majority is not the majority, it comes across like everyone is part of one fringe or another, and that doesn't really work. It's sort of like the whole "strong manly woman" thing, there is nothing really wrong with it, except for when almost every female character seems to be some variation on that, and there are no normal, traditionally feminine women, strong or otherwise, or at least not enough to make this seem anything like a reasonable portrayal. Believe it or not most women are not, and do not want to be, pseudo-men, and sit around pumping iron all day or whatever.

The problem, not that many read my stuff, is everyone talking over each other so much, especially from the "progressive" camp, that they don't even see what the real issues here are. It's just easier to reduce the opposition to an offensive stereotype of what's actually being said, rather than have a reasonable dialogue about it, and figure out what kinds of compromises on this kind of thing might be reasonable.

Huge wall of text to say you're against gays in video games if they are more than 5% of the game's pop. What's next, apartheid in video games? Oh since we're basing on real statistics, how about include all the violence against women we got in our real lifes. Let's make also a huge percentage of the male npcs sexual offenders, since a ton of them do that in real life.

Not what he said at all just shoe horning gay into a game is not only insulting to straight people it's insulting to any GAY person with a modicum of self respect as that character isn't then respected as an individual for who they are and there accomplishments but rather just being the token "gay guy" which is worse than the token black guy from 90s movies etc.... where the identity was black rather than respecting sovereign individuals who happen to be gay as a form of representation. In order to get that right you need a development team of hand picked individuals that would be so force ably aligned it would never happen. Someone somewhere somehow will get annoyed because something will be wrong. However quite often these companies don't give a ♥♥♥♥ really but just want to meet a status quo for clout and it's both painful and insulting.
