Despite all the possibilities, NAT20 means nothing.
Kinda dissappointed with the fact that a NAT20 on skill checks have no special dialogue or conseqeunces :( Usually when you NAT20 at the table means you get to do some cool and fun stuff, but here a NAT20 means nothing. It's just passing your check like you other wise would if you merely rolled high enough.

Nat 20 on skill checks doesn't mean that you get something "special" by the rules. That is to say, that Larian is using the ruleset given to them and they can't possibly take into consideration every homerule of every table.

I hear you. I guess it's just one of the limitations of computer games and why the tabletop will always be king.

If your table plays for the memse and giggles - yes you can seduce the BBEG and whatnot, but if you play seriously nat 20 doesn't mean anything other than that you rolled the biggest number possible.

I think it would be so cool if they added a little cinematic for NAT20s in combat, e.g. instead of basic hit there is a character-specific scene with a flip and a kick or shouting. Could also be smth amazing for mages.

It means you pass any 21 and higher skill check where you have no bonus's to apply. There are a few 30 and i think some higher skill checks in the game.

Nat 20 succeeds on any skill check, and is also guaranteed hit in addition and crit's in combat.

Its a bit more than passing, it means you succeed where the math is not enough to ever succeed given your skills and modifiers to them.

They would have to code a special outcome for every skill check in the game. Also, Nat 20 isn't exactly rare, its every 20th check (or more with advantage, which is also easy to get) so not super exceptional with cherry on top - but rather a common outcome for a skill check.

Could have made weak enemies explode on a 20 sometimes at least, like BG2.

Also having your char or one of you party members make smart ass comments when you nat 20 lock pick or something occasionally would have been possible.

While cool at first glance, why would someone explode if you score a critical hit with a dagger, or any weapon for that matter. Dismemehrments with slashing weapons - sure. But no matter how hard or precise you hit (a crit is just a potentially stronger hit mechanically), nobody explodes on kill unless you implant a grenade before.

What would they see? You pick a lock, and it opens. There are no magic fireworks, it just opens.

Stll allows you to succeed on a check way out of your usual ability.

There is isn't there? Not a special animation but Shadowheart screams when she does a crit. That's the one I always notice anyway.
