Resilient vs War caster
Which is in your opinion stronger for a backline caster? I have only used Resilient CON to protect my concentration spells and haven't tried War caster at all. I know you can get both by starting with 17 in you casting stat, getting some yummy hair and capping your main stat at lvl 4. Then you could get one at level 8 and the second at lvl 12, but it seems overkill for someone in the backline.

So, which would you choose and why?

Resilient is better for lower starting con saves, especially if you can use the stat bonus to hit an even number

the support caster gets resilient CON every time

any other kind of caster gets war caster

It highly depends on what items your casters are wearing.

If they're wearing an item that says it gives advantage on constitution saves, this also applies to concentration. Adding Resilient on top of that adds proficiency bonus plus advantage, making it harder for concentration spells to break.

If some of your casters don't have an item like that, you might be better off getting War Caster for two d20s than an extra +4 to con checks.

How do you differentiate? Clerics / druids are support? Or by spell choices?

I think war caster is a must for wizards because they usually have low con

So you would pick War caster's advantage over proficiency from Resilient? And yeah, this question is more to compare them without considering items too much. If you slap all sorts of gear that boost saving throws on your caster, war caster seems a lot better.

What do you use them for?

For example my first character was a druid but was a front line fighter due to being Circle of Spores.

Shadowheart in that same playthrough was more in the back lines in Act 1 casting bless, hold person and command but in the 2nd act was on the front lines with Spirit Guardians, spiritual weapon and invoke duplicity.

Don't waste a feat on it. Just make a hireling a level 6 transmutation wizard and use the stone it makes to protect concentration rolls.

Then you don't even need to even waste an item slot to accomplish it.

Get an afk transmutation wizard in your camp (hireling or unused origin) and at lvl 6 they can make one item which gives Proficiency in Constitution until long rest.
You need more afk transmutation wizards if u want more stones.

Advantage on Concentration checks is actually available on some armor pieces, like the minthara armor.

But as to your question Proficiency for Constitution is better than War Caster in most of the situations.

I use shadow concentration wizard (Rogue 2 / Wizard +). Basically cast a spell and bonus action hide every round. Works 90% of the time, I rarely lose concentration since I never have a check for it.

i prefer always resilient cuz its more hp and better saves. if u just go for numbers warcaster would be better for concentrate cuz ADV is like a +5 and resi is just like +1 (without proficeny counting, cuz its caling up, so maxed is better at the end).

Nah, I rather play the game than try to game it.

Gaming it would be me realizing I could use my berserker barbarian during speech cutscenes to just walk them towards the enemy and throw them off a cliff. This ain't bending the rules, it is the rules.
