Dark Urge origin seems to be canon
Seeing the amount of extra dialogue and scenes he gets in Act III and how well he fits into the story makes it seem like it's how the game was meant to be played

Larian probably got scared by how grishly it was and made it optional.

I heard devs dont want you to play as dark urge on 1st time because custom tav seem so bland later on.

every outcome is canon. its a self created story.

I don't remember where but i read somewhere that Tav (custom) was supposed to be the dark urge but they decided that it was too dark for the custom character so they've just "added" the dark urge.

That is the correct one.

In principal I'd like to agree, but I'm not sure its entirely accurate. If you never played (or imported) ME1 to ME2 for example, there was a set of choices ME2 assumed. That set of choices is in a sense 'cannon'.

BG2 had "Abdel Adrian" which is what got cannonized into FR, even though I never was interested in that dingbat.

And if there is a novel, or reference to BG3 events within official FR lore - that will become cannon.

A lot of players assume Dark Urge (given how much effort was put into it, and that it has obvious ties to thematic aspects of the first two games because it can turn into the slayer making the PC part of the bhaalspawn lineage .

Theres a rumor floating around the DURGE was initally written to be part of tav in general. Becuase of the spoier above, I tend to think the rumor wasnt entirely invented out of whole cloth whatever the truth of it may be

Yes - Dark Urge is canon, and falls perfectly in line with existing Baldur's Gate lore. But Larian likes to offer alternatives - which is why you can decide to play as a mute version of any of your companions (not that I can think why anyone would)

But why is it a half-dragon race?
