Does BG3 put Squadron 42 in perspective?
BG3 was in early access for 3 years and for a while some ppls were axious about that maybe the studio would never finish it. there was a lot of comment about why we should not buy that early access. Finally Larian released an amazing game that is in the top of the stardard for this type of game if not push the boundries further even... Im wondering if the same will happend with squadron 42 the second project of star citizen.

Larian did it with D:OS and D:OS2 as well both had early access and both turned out great.

As for Squadron 42 pretty sure it will end up being good as well.. and hey you never know we might get to see it next year haha

That were idio…"people" who didn't understand that game development takes an enormous amount of time and ignored the constant progress. Also 6 years for a rather small company like Larian (has grown now substantially during development) for a game like this is not a long time (anymore). These "people" didn't think (at all), they just wanted to complain loudly and ♥♥♥♥♥ about something. Their "opinion" was always meaningless.

@topic: I just don't care about SC/S42 :devilpoke:

Wow, never expected to this comparison.

Squadron 404 disappeared from CIG's store months ago, with no word on when it will reappear, if ever.

In 2014 CIG's management, 3 of them, on separate occasions all said it was close to finish.

Throughout 2014-2016 they kept advertising it like it was almost ready.

In 2015 Chris Roberts said "By the end of this year backers will have everything they originally pledged for plus a lot more" (they still don't have even a tenth of what they backed for, 8 years later).

Since 2016 they've alternated between going radio silent on the topic of Squadron 42's release to hinting that great progress is being made and release is not that far away.

In 2016, one of the CMs said he'd played through every level of SQ42 because he's from QA and that was his job.

Every annual con they hint that its coming soon.

Over 600 million in pledges, 11 years in development, and CIG still haven't delivered on either game. They still haven't delivered on the game they said they could do for 6.5 million or the game they said they could do for 65 million.

Bonus points:

Chris Roberts stating that it would take 2-3 years, otherwise things would get stale. What does 11 years make it then?

Chris Roberts said that working without a publisher he could develop the game for 1/5 the cost it would with a publisher. If he was right, then SC's effective cost with a publisher would now be over 3 billion dollars!

Chris Roberts said (and in doing so demonstrated a fundamental lack of knowledge about software development and project management) that by people pledging more money they could commit more resources to develop things QUICKER!! Hell, if this is quicker, i really don't want to know what slower would look like!

To date, CIG have delivered only 1 out of 110 systems that backers pledged for.

The game is still in pre-alpha.

In short, don't give CIG money, they will never deliver on what they are selling.

Don't fall for their marketing. They advertise it as a fully playable and fun product rather than a buggy alpha with limited gameplay loops.

And if you do buy it, and go to their forum ( called Spectrum), which is a paywall forum (you can't post unless you've given them money), and complain about bugs or whatever, you'll be shouted down by white knights calling you a troll, a hater, and telling you that you don't understand game development. Push back against them and a mod will be along shortly to ban you, along with a lovely message that says "This ban will not affect your game access at this time" - in other words, they threaten you with taking away your ability to play the game if you are critical about them on their forum.

If despite all this, you still think maybe its not that bad, and there is a good game to be had here, wait for a "free fly" event, and experience it for yourself. And if you find it tollerable, and want to pledge, for the love of god, just get a basic package and leave it at that.

Oh, and one more. For people who have already given CIG enough money (IIRC its 1000 dollars), they give you the option of buying a pack of spaceships (many of which are still not available to fly in the alpha) for a cool 40,000 dollars.

Yes, you can give the company money to skip the grind and just pay for ships... and in-game currency as well. But the faithful backers will tell you its not pay 2 win, because there is nothing to win! Amazing logic!

CIG promise that all money pledged goes towards development of the game... which might be less believable when you hear the execs pay themselves annual dividends worth millions of dollars from the money they get.

Is Star Citizen a scam? Is Chris Roberts a scammer? Or is he just an incompetent dreamer?

You decide.

That's why I had written:

And on the topic: According to the Cloud Imperium Games website "…having grown to facilitate a crew of over 700 of the most talented people in the industry…" Quite some more…
