Yep I'm very late ha.

Can you learn this any other way?
Ranpo Sep 27, 2023 @ 8:08am
Well in the flesh but whether his mind is still Balduran is up for debate.

No and I refuse to accept it.

He had a canonical legendary hero ending that got retconned for pandering to sell a cheap imitation of a beloved title.

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Balduran

In the Year of the Wave, 1364 DR, Grand Duke Eltan and the Flaming Fist mercenaries of Baldur's Gate undertook an expedition to Anchorome to discover Balduran's fate. On the coast, they discovered a ruined fort, broken and rusted weapons and armor, and a ship's log, and from it presumed this to be where Balduran and his crew met their ends. Then they were attacked by a tribe of savage elves, whom they thought had slaughtered Balduran's expedition, and were forced to retreat.[7] They gave his name to the nearby Bay of Balduran[7][17] and to a settlement and its territory in Maztica, immediately north of the Borderlands.

And the explanation for the retcon? You might be familiar with this wording.

Yet somehow Balduran survived these dooms and returned to Faerûn
Somehow... palpatine survived. Pathetic lazy writing.

So awful. I didn't know the spoiler but I looked anyway.

I'm kinda shocked how so many people are like bg3 best writing ever.

They crap on established Forgotten Realm characters and crap on BG1 and BG2 characters.

Should have never been bg3. Dumbest thing ever. Call it Forgotten Realms go to one of the large cities and call it a day. Baldurs Gate isn't even a top city in terms of Forgotten Realms.

The original saga did so good with the Baulduran lore.

To be completely fair a lot of it is WotC fault because the whole political correct campaign has been helping their endless endeavour to kill all of their intellectual properties so they absolutely need to start printing some money. A lot of the pandering was their idea and a lot of the retcons where their idea.

Larian signed off on it and was okay with it though. They could have said no and had some integrity or pushed back against obviously demented choices(like older studios did) but they are also very transparently interested in profit above all else so the pandering suits them too.

It's like this with all the retcons btw. The viconia retcon is explained by a single note that boils down to "I was pretending all along".

I am so not ok with the Viconia retcon it was awful.

To be bg3 the main character should have been the Bhaal spawn main PC and Viconia's offspring grown up.

The story could have been built around your mother's murder and your father hiding Bhaal stuff from you.

Bg3 is just a completely different story in the same general area with a couple of cameos.

I don't think the Baldurs gate name helped move copies because the games mainstream audience isn't even aware of the original saga.

Let's make Godfather 4 but instead of the Italian American mafia we will make it about a group of chefs. That is how random the connection between BG saga and bg3 is

Breathe, my friend. A world without a BG3 is a sad one. We can't all be asked to play a 20 year old game again for the gazillionth time :)

You don't make a sequel to any type of media if the story is NOT connected.

It's not a sequel it's a spin off.

Fortunately i got to the Ansur encounter without spoilers.

But i was so pissed at the retcon i shut my PC down right there for the night.

Not sure if i was more pissed at the lame retcon by WOTC or the game character for killing his friend who was trying to help him.

I would say it was palpatine level of badness, except that i saw the palpatine tthing coming (not in detail but in spirit). TFA was so bad imo that nothing surprised me after that because i knew that with disney SW was only going down the crapper.
