A healing focused Cleric.....seems too weak? This feels really off.
Healing spells just don't seem to heal enough to be viable at all....

At level 5 now.......and facing foes that can hit twice for 12 damage....and my healing spell often doesn't even cover one of those strikes......what?

I remember playing a healing cleric in D&D years back......and maybe my memory is playing tricks.....but something feels really off about this....

RNG, the upcast rolls are a bit gimped and whatever bonus as life cleric to heals seems trival (it should be +2 + level, so upcast), and then Blessed Healer at level 6, so you would get heals.

Slowed is a wizard spell, so cant be cured by Greater Resto, etc.

You're weak.
Having a Healer in the party was very important in D&D, or at least it once was. Being weak is of no concern if you can make your combatants terrifying undying warriors with your healing skills.
in d&d 5 u dont play with a healer like u got some in WoW or ff14, its more u only heal(ing word) if someone is down and rolls for death saves, otherwise u would never waste a spellslot for healing.
Yay healing, maybe we can heal them to death

The healing hall of fame in whatever major city dumb enough to make one is probably just statues of bundles of cure light wounds wands and which famous party retired them after they'd done their service.
On its own - yes. You have to combine with varios items which will boost healing and make it also provide buffs like 2 turns blade ward and 2 turns bless and so on. You also have to use life domain for its healing spell buff

Yes, Clerics are quite bad healers in tabletop 5e too. The best *combat* healers are Paladins (in tabletop, I assume Lay on Hands is OP in game too)
My Life Cleric can heal around 1/3 of the party's heath, almost all of her health, plus give Bless and Blade Ward to everyone for two turn, as a bonus action. I can stand still for 10 turns and not die.
To me in bg3 clerics thrive at camp. Especially with 1 level of druid to make a bazillion berries.

Some the brst cleric buffs are all early spells and don't require concentration. You van have 4 clerics at camp that just cast on your main war party.

They can provide tons of berries if you don't like resting. And since it's so easy you can pop into camp to get healed up again if you dont like resting.

In my war party I've gone with a Pally Druid. Specifically mushroom druid. Their mushroom aurora is pretty strong early game for damage. And you increase your smites cause full caster. And still basically do all your cleric stuff you need.

The aurora is especially strong when used with a cleric buff bot at camp. Cause you drop cleric bond on the mushroom druid. Temp hitpoint damage does not damage the bonded cleric. So your Pally/Druid is basically invincible as early as lvl 3. Kinda sick

I got 3 shortie hirelings in camp as buff bots. Plus 1 respecced companion that I never use. So my entire war party is cleric bonded taking 50% damage reduction of everything.

Long strider, posion resist, and aid on everyone as well at low level. Later you can apply death ward and freedom of movement to everyone. End game you can cast heroes feast on everyone.

Wounds and injuries are one of the things RPGs have just never had a good system for. "Health points" are much too simple a way to handle things, but coming up with a more complicated system that's actually enjoyable to use in a game setting has proven very difficult.

At some point I'd love to see a RPG that acknowledges how weird society would become with health potions being so widely available and affordable, like energy drinks are in our world. Like, why do we have so many options for adding scars to our characters when it's so difficult to make a wound heal poorly? Also, how does a child gain any sense of danger or risk if any injury besides disease means nothing? No wonder those tiefling kids are all such brats. Put some sugar in the potions and they'd probably try to get themselves hurt on purpose.

Anyway clerics are screwy because the injury system is screwy and always has been.

It seems that I need to pickpocket more.
OP don’t listen to these “Clerics are weak” posts just do like I said, as a support/heal class Shadowheart is literally my most effective party member, I use her every playthrough all game.

Turn 1 you can literally

Bonus Action:
Entire party - ~10 HP, Blade Ward, +2d4 Attack/SpellAttack/SavingThrows, +3 temp HP

Action: Guardian Spirit AoE summon smash several enemies for something like 60-80 damage total, or Turn Undead to absolutely own the combat, or Spirit Guardians AoE+Reduce movement enemies

It’s like, not only are Clerics EPIC party members but in BG3 they come on line literally as soon as you get to the Druid grove.

Oath of the Ancient Paladin is the best healer in my opinion
I see lots of people in these combats that play in games with DMs that don't know how to balance combat encounters.

Clerics have always been one of the strongest classes you can play in DnD and yes it's largely because of the healing.
