Nope, there is a secret basement level. You need a magic ring, which you can get from Bernard the automaton, to reveal the elevator button. To get the ring from Bernard you have to find and recite the right bit of poetry.
As far as I can remember the only significant thing connected to the Arcane Tower is Omeluum's branch of the Removing the Parasite quest, which is a dead end. You can get a ring from him but it's pretty underwhelming. It's a combat healing ring when healing isn't really that relevant in the game. There is a History Of Orpheus disc and Staff of Arcane Blessing as well, but yeah it's largely an underutilized area of the map. It feels like out of the two branching paths the Underdark itself wasn't given as much love as the Mountain Pass. It feels like they had a bigger vision for it than what it actually is.
There's a little quest connected to that button and a gravesite with a dog collar in it, but you just get a piece of meat.
He has a nice spear too. Only if you're a construct though.
I want to change my pronouns to construct so I can use the spear without self-inflicted stun
I found the underdark a very cool location to explore. It seems to me that you are more focused on the reward than the experience. Underdark is far bigger than mountain pass with tons of cool stuff to be done there.
It seems to me you're assuming things that aren't true.
I thoroughly explored the Underdark and really every part of this game by now. It's big, but there isn't much there. Even in the Arcane Tower it seems like there should be more than what is actually there. Lore and storywise there's just not much going on.
The Mountain Pass is small, but everything is much more densely packed so it feels more substantial than it is. That's a mark of good level design in my opinion. The Underdark has a lot of areas like the Arcane Tower that go nowhere. The best part of it is the Grymforge, and if I cared about rewards like you falsely claimed then that's the better route? The Blood of Lathander is nice, but you get some of the best armor in the game from the Grymforge. Furthermore, neither area is mutually exclusive, so it's really a silly thing to say to begin with.
Progress on main story and Laezel's story with the first real hint of what's going on with the Gith at the current timeline of the story.
Progress on Gales story as the tower is loosely tied to Mystra and Gale.
Progress on the main story with Omelleum and the Tadpole.
Additional lore regarding the Sussur trees, flowers, etc.
The Robots are neither good nor evil, so in game there's really no reason to fight them from a lore perspective, from a meta perspective the only reason to fight them really is the items and xp rewards for doing so.
Those letters just don't bring it to life(frankly i don't care about those two) same with the boss fight up top(just Xp farm), maybe if the cleric would still be around, i would. Maybe, i don't know...i would care more then now that's for sure.
Not sure how the tower is even left standing seeing how the other stronghold/castle in area that had a bunch of defenders and a wall and still got over run...
Kinda not surprised cos story can be miss of hit with Larian all the the time and it's larians weakest side and i would say down right achilles heel.
yeah but that's why it's the weakest place cos those things don't really tie to it, they could have been done, moved anywhere and they would still work just fine...
