Dark Urge just has its own unique tie-in to the story, can still roleplay your own headcanon while using Durge's story bits as creative fodder. If you want to -resist- the evil within, its a bit more compelling.. sure.. but nothing wrong with being an absolute bloodthirsty menace. You are not missing out if you don't care to add bits of its story/help it fuel you own.. you miss a Cape that allows you to go invisible when you kill (useful on rogues.. always goes to Astarion for me) and a beastly form known as The Slayer that isn't.. super great if you choose to slay an important NPC later.
Durge is rewarding in its own way, but not required to be evil.
Exactly! Treat it exactly as the name is. Just some dark urges
Roleplay like your normal character with these dark urges. Try to imagine how they manifest. For example, my last playthrough was a durge that was scared of the urges, and treated it like a disease. Tried finding every cure, every way. Scared of hurting others. Turned to necromancy in an attempt to satiate her urges on the already dead and tried to keep her lover safe
So, I suppose, the Dark Urge has more motivation in terms of gameplay and story.
The preset origin background is really not going to hurt your casting build. over the entirety of the game.
