Any ideas on defeating netherbrain?

So I'm stuck where you have to get your characters to the crown and use netherstones. I've looked at youtube and they all seem to use invisibility on all their characters but whenever I try it just gets countered every time. I'm using 2 wizards, shadowheart and asterion.

I usually dont loose any allies in the courtyard. As long they dont die they can be resummoned after combat is over.

If you do Laezel's companion quest, Voss will bring a single dragonstrike attack run to use as a nuke. You probably mixed that up with Ansur whom gets destroyed.

Theres a LOT of allies to gather. Some are mutually exclusive and depends on choices made.

I threw a haste spore grenade at my parties feet 1st turn. Asterion used Necromancy of Thay and those mobs managed to dodge and distract all the enemies for me. Everything else was luck or party specific (My fighter, karlach, asterion, & shadowheart). The portal was open by the 2nd or 3rd turn and the boss was defeated on the 5th.

To do all of this I have to go back to a save before the no turning back part. I have deleted all the saves above this to stop me getting tempted and end up trying to tear my hair out again

It is not required to fight anything but the Netherbrain after the point of no return. A wizard with Greater Invisibility can walk (and jump and Musty Step) through the possible battles, then to touch the Restoration Pod next to the final arena and proceed - the party will teleport to them. Another caster (or several Invisibility potions) can cast Invisibility on the party.

Some of the allies require decisions made back way back in chapter 1, the Ox being one of them. I had over 10 to choose from and didn't use any in battles leading up to the brain.

I'm sure it's possible without many allies. You will need to polymorph the dragon or similar to keep him off your back.

I focused down the counter-party bosses, summoned all my allies, sent mindflayer forawrds solo once the dragon moves out of the way, throw the reflect missiles bomb you get from gortash on him, that should make all the MM mind flayers suicide themselves, then walk forward and open the portal with your DPS guy (whoever it is) following (I polymorphed the dragon a whole bunch, made the fight a hell of a lot easier)

Never thought of polymorph

Its a 20%-16% chance of it actually occurring but I had a bunch of spare scrolls and it seemed like the best use of my clerics time, turned out my whole strategy suddenly revolved around it and I managed to first try it

So Gale gets to the crown and casts Dome of Invulnerability. All my party are close behind. End of turn 1 of the Dome Emporer starts opening portal but a mindflayer casts Mind Blast on the party that gets into Dome everyone saved except Emporer who then stops opening the portal.

In turn 2 of the Dome its the same Emporer starts opening portal and is mind blasted so is forced to stop again

In turn 3 of the Dome. The Emporer tries to open portal again. Ice Storm is cast on Dome everyone stays upright except...you guessed it the Emporer and thus the opening of the portal fails again

Dome ends after the third turn and all my party is destroyed soon afterwards.

Quick questions to form a baseline of expectations. Don't get angry with me for asking stupid questions.

What difficulty level are you playing on?

What's your level?

What's your wizard spell DC? For both characters? This will tell me how well built your characters are, both in stats and gear.

What domain is Shadowheart (assuming she's still a cleric)? She's worth a hell of a lot more as a dedicated healer when I turned her into a life domain cleric, rather than the trickster crap she starts with by default.

What bow does Asterion have? Again, this will tell me how good your gear is.

If your answers are way off, then there might not be much that can help you.

What I don't get is why enemies are casting ice storm and counterspell on him. I've played that end fight like, 4 different times across 4 different playthroughs, never had either happen. This was on balanced diff.

At this point, if you're still having difficulty, roll back to the last save you had where you could camp and grab Lae'zel and Karlach instead of Astarion and Gale. Spec Lae'zel as a throwing Fighter with Nyrluna and Karlach as a GWM fighter with Balduran's sword of giant slaying. Have the two of them pop bloodlust elixirs and potions of speed and kill everything for you. It's winnable with a caster heavy party, but if you're having trouble there's no shame in using the brute force approach.

I wouldn't assume he has that gear. Let's find out what he has before telling him what to use.

I, for example, ascended Astarion for the necrotic damage buff, then I respec'ed him as a champion fighter. I gave him Dead Shot bow, along with other bow-friendly gear. He does about 30 damage per attack without critting. With haste and action surge he can mow down pretty much anything in short order.

Oh, I also gave him the ring that gives advantage on attack and disadvantage on save rolls. So he basically never misses. For a while I had him attack out of a Darkness cloud while he and my Warlock hid in it, but eventually he became so powerful he didn't even need it.

I usually gut everyone including the dragon in 2 turns when I play solo on tactician.

And none of the enemies even makes a move on me as they are never alive long enough to make a move.

If he can’t beat the fight after so many tries with full Larry of 4 on normal then he is just really bad at the game, probably one of those people who just skips all dialogue and content and just wants to beat the game fast.

The fact he had no good spells and he mains a wizzard means he haven’t even done the wizzard based quest line and also he has very few Allies and doesn’t even know their names meaning he have half asssed most of the game.

At this point he should just start all over or give up and go play Diablo 4 or something similar
