Lyrthindor (Spoilers for those who haven't made it to act 2)
I fought Lyrthindor down at the bottom of the pit in the Gauntlet. I noticed a ritual site and a book on the ground and read it. What I'm thinking is Shar didn't make him a horde of rats, Raphael did. Is this correct?

Follow up questions:

Raphael sends us into the mausoleum to fight a demon because it was a place he couldn't go in (I don't remember his exact reason for not being able to go into there). If Lyrthindor did do the ritual in the gauntlet, how did Raphael turn him into rats if this is a place he couldn't go into? And as a follower of Shar, is it normal for her devotees, especially justiciars (given their extensive training) to seek help from powerful demons?

I guess I'm just trying to understand the writing here that is presented to me. Maybe I'm getting too sucked into the game and I want things to make sense for me. Any theories or thoughts on this would be appreciated!

1)
Yes Raphael provided him the spell, he cast it himself.
2)
He provided the means, Lythindor did it himself.
3) It's not normal but that doesn't mean that a guy that watched his entire order slaughtered isn't going to make some unusual choices.

Essentially a guy gets pushed to the brink, makes a deal with a devil and then loses his mind over the years since.

For the first question, yes he did.
For the second question; he can go in there, it's just that he doesn't want to. He also turned him into rats way way before you ever got there.
And finally; anyone will make a deal if pushed far enough.

Edit: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ninjas.

Well my guess it's the trap set by Raphael.

"Spill all the blood sworn to the night. Silence all prayers; smother each rite
Wander Shar's halls; hungry to slay; Leave no Justiciar alive to obey.
Leave none to hear it, then be set free; This song is your oath, swear, swear it to me. "

Then he made a contract with that Shar's soldier to turn him into a multitude of rats, trapping Yurgir because it wouldn't be possible to kill them all, and he wouldn't even know they're part of the contract.

I actually found that the 2 quests are related:

OP's Title implies spoilers, reading this far means you don't care.

Lyrthindor is the last remaining Justiciar in the gauntlet, and therefore the last person Yungir needs to kill in order to complete his contract with Raphael. Raphael, mainly wanting to keep Yungir in reserve for future use and not have the Orthon used against him by a rival, approached Lyrthindor after Yungir had started his rampage and offered him a way to survive and continue guarding his lady's temple despite the Orthon's presence. Thus, the ritual to turn him into a swarm of rats was preformed at the base of Shar's statue in the Gauntlet.

That's basically the size of it. Raphael pushes the idea of killing the Orthon because doing so would force him to reform back in Avernus, but with Rapheal's contract still binding him. Thus, he ends up with a powerful forever-slave. Or at least that's his plan, provided you don't work with Yungir to break that contract for him.

Now it all makes sense. I never got any dialog with Yurgir. He flat out attacked me. Could have been because I killed the displacer beast without a second thought lol.

You're right at this point, what's done is done for me. I don't go back on previous saves. So I'm not concerned with spoilers for this. I was looking for clarity on the story behind what went on in there. And now I have it! Thanks for the response.

I think it's adressed to future readers because he didn't want to bother with spoils tags too.
