Fairy fire vs bless What do you prefer and why?
Heyho

I was just asking myself which one of those spells is preferable overall.

I have so far used fairy fire in almost every battle and I think it is super useful, though I have read several times now that people recommend bless so I´m not sure which one of these two spells is more advantageus.

Please post which one of these spells you prefer and why.

Thanks

They are both concentration spells which sucks, but overall Bless is better because it doesn’t require a save to be effective. Now if I need someone to be visible that is hidden or invisible then Faerie Fire is better.

Hmm ok. What do you mean with fairy fire requiring a save to be effective?

Enemies in the AOE can save to not get tagged by the fire. Similarly, invisible enemies can save to stay invisible.

Oh really? I thought it works without exception. Interesting.

Bless for sure as you can upcast it and bless your entire group. While the faerie fire , the enemies can move away and then you need to spend another action next turn.

Also bless , you can precast it on your team before engaging combat and this way you don’t need to spend an action for faerie fire

Actually with FF, once an enemy is tagged they stay tagged regardless of where they move unless the caster loses focus or the duration expires.

But as far as I can tell this can be done with fairy fire as well. I usually start fights with ff already active.

Bless because there’s no save.

FF has a few advantages. Advantage is worth, I think, +3.5 on the roll? I think that’s the math? Bless is only 2.5 (1-4).

Another thing is, with bless you ALWAYS have at least 4 targets, with FF there are many times when you’re fighting a boss or 2 targets and the numbers aren’t as valuable.

Also, Bless adds to saving throws. And Spell Attack with the Staff of Arcane Blessing

Good points. Thanks. I just checked and I have noticed that you waste a lvl 2 spell slot when you upcast bless so that is definitly one disadvantage I think.

Neither.

Concentration spells are better saved up for damage dealing spells:)

I prefer Bless and Blindness, there's no concentration on Blindness so you can cast both. I only use FF if I need an invisibility purge.

Fairy Fire OMG i'm on my second playthrough and HELLS i just figured out that fairy fire

REVEALS ALL HIDDEN BUTTONS
and TRAPS in its radius!

♥♥♥♥ perception checks and reloading endlessly

advantage is super easy to get without concentration so that makes Fairy fire obsolete and bless has a few other similar replacements as well just fewer, that don't need concentration. but bless spell is still useful and it stacks with elixer of hero meaning you get two bless spells at the same time... and it stacks with other accuracy bonuses.

Hmm that´s indeed smart especially when there is something and all your characters have failed their perception checks. Didn´t think about that before. Thanks.

Btw the sing ability of Phalar Aluve is similar to bless and can be used on top of it. Pretty useful.
