This is your answer. There may be a modded ring or necklace or something but there is a potion you can craft and there's a scroll floating around in game.

How do I get to the point where can craft scrolls/potions for this? Unsure if I have that in my recipe book.

I usually end up with way too many potions of "speak with animals". The game practically throws them at you.

It's cool that they put that into the game, but after a while I just start ignoring it.

You shouldn't need to craft any. The game gives you tons, most potion merchants sell them, and they last for an entire long rest.
