How do I disable Steel Watchers?
I have been walking around Baldur's Gate in Act 3 now for quite some time, exploring every building, nook, and cranny, trying to find the place where you can disable Lord Gortash's Steel Watcher army. This was Orin's suggestion, she told me it was possible after she captured my Lae'Zel, and that the way to disable them lies somewhere in the Lower City. I haven't directly fought any of the Steel Watchers yet, but after examining them, I would rly prefer not to. Seems like they would be annoying and deadly to fight, so yeah. I am hoping I can find a way to disable or at least weaken them somehow, as Orin suggested to me, that way I can rescue Karlach, who was taken by Lord Gortash in the audience chamber not too long ago. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide in this.

If you spoke with Orin already then you should have the quest "Disable the Steel Watch"... (that sends you to the Steel Watch Foundry, where you disable them).
You'd also get this after speaking with Gortash at the coronation. And if you saved the gnomes and spoke with them in the cave under Rivington then you'd have a second quest that also sends you to the place.

I just throw rocks at them and they die. They are badly engineered

tip: dont blow up the foundry until you have visited the iron throne. you can clear the first room and enter the security office but dont go further unless you are playing evil or murderhobo or you just dont care.

I talked to the Ironsomething goblins and they gave me a bomb which I popped right in the foundry to blow the whole place up. If you are in touch with Bartus / Wulbren their dialogs should lead you to this outcome.

Btw if you are able to enter the foundry yard, feel free to attempt to kill the two SWs patrolling outside - it should be doable depending on your level ofc. They are sensitive to lightning damage. I think if you kill those and walk right in the gnomes in there will talk to you and give you the same quest.

Did you save some of the sussur blooms from Act 1? If you keep them in a bag you can stand next to the Steel Watch constructs for a fun interaction. Works wonders on magic users as well.

Blowing up the foundry without the iron throne is a very viable way to complete the quest especially if you are an evil playthrough and side with Wolbren.

Also there is no special or unique loot in the iron throne that you will really miss if you don’t do it. The duke heist isn’t necessary either especially if you are playing evil.

So i got past the control room and entered that room with the Neurocitor, which I hope to disable or destroy. I snuck past the 3 steel watchers in that room, cuz i am tired of fighting them by this point. I had Gale roll a successful INT check on the Neurocitor, still didn't help and I could do nothing with it, so that's lame. I even snuck in that Gnome boss who's blindfolded, from the room with the broken Scrying Screen. Even he couldn't do anything with the Neurocitor. It's like, wtf. Didn't he invent the damn thing? Anyways, so out of frustration, I sneak atk one of the steel watchers in the Neurocitor room, and all of a sudden this giant f*cking thing appears in the middle of the room, Gortash's Magnum Opus or whatever, and so I'm like NOPE and exit the game. What am I supposed to do now? Do I have to destroy that Magnum Opus thing?? If so, I'm going to be disappointed with the game. There's got to be some kind of work-around here, because I rly don't want to have to "deal with the steel" anymore plz.

The sassur blooms wither as soon as they are brought out of the underdark. Does keeping them in a bag really prevent that?

You didnt trigger the boss fight, that was why you couldnt do anything beforehand. Also, you want to destroy it, yields an incredible legendary bow.

The Steel Watchers are fairly easy to kill. Especially if you Haste Lae'zel, and use disarm on them.

I've been having Shadowheart cast Command (drop weapon) on them, which seems to be effective, but I guess Lae'zel doing that would work too. Unfortunately she's been kidnapped by Orin by this point in my playthru, so I can't use her. Karlach got taken too :(
Starting to think Act 3 is actually a bite in the bum.
