Laezel or Gale? Who to leave after the first act?
I don't really like the toad, but I thought Gale was an interesting character. Here I choose characters more in terms of "conversational" rather than in terms of mechanics. Which one is more interesting until Act 3?

Perhaps I’ll also take Karlach, but I’ve already cleared the druid forest and the quest can’t be taken.

I haven't finished the game yet, no spoilers.

To me Laezel has an interesting character arc/development throughout the story.
I also like Gale but in my opinion his story isn't as interesting to me.

Question are you trying to get rid of one of these companions somehow, or will they still be in your camp?

Neither has a lot of content in act 2 and in act 3 I’d say Laezel has alot more going on but you can always just pick one of them for their quest then swap to the other for their quest.

Laezel is easier as a companion as she just smashes enemies with a giant sword while I find Gale more situational as far as combat companion goes

Yes, I want to leave only one, but another option is possible, this is Karlach. But I’ve already cut out the druid forest, so I don’t know if it’s possible to get it, because I can’t take the quest anymore.

Lae'zel has a surprisingly good story line. I can't stand her at the beginning of the game, but as you near the end of Act I and play through Act II, she changes (like all the companions) and her story can be really fun.

Gale is opposite for me--I like him more in Act I, but his story is far-fetched (even for a DnD game) and gets cheesy. He was fun to have around for conversations, but I founnd myself enjoying the banter between companions like Shadowheart, Lae'zel, and Wyll more than Gale. He got annoying fairly quickly and I eventually just left him at camp.

Obviously, these are just my opinions and you should decide for yourself. Either way, I hope you're enjoying the game!

Agreed about Gale, at level 12 I still only use simple things like Magic Missile or Fireball, most of his interesting spells don't work often enough to be useful in my experience. Laezel as a Battlemaster Fighter pretty much dominates the battlefield.

For Act 1, you shouldn't lose any of the companions unless you go out of your way to make one of them extremely mad or you somehow get them kill before you make them join you.
If you are talking about party wise/roleplaying, eh it is up to your preference. You can beat the whole game with one character as long as you cheese it well enough.

I have already cleared the druid forest and my black friend has disappeared. And I also kicked out Astarion. So I will have Mintara, Shadowheart and the last character to choose from.

Gale has impact on your story and Lae'zel has a story arc. Gale is pretty much made as a main character. His story means little, never explained. Gale impact on the story is an alternative ending. Gale is good alignment and will reject to evil. Lae'zel and Shadowheart are both evil alignment. Shadowheart is evil through her cleric diety and will approve on early evil plot. Wyll will not approve of it since he's lawful good. Yes alignment do exist in the game. Wyll is the lawful and good sheriff. Karlack is chaotic good. And Gale is neutral Good and they will all leave you in an evil plot.

Oh, well the game going to make you choose soon.

Still. Why not have both? Want to leave out for a second playthrough? Honestly never quite understood why people purposely just kill off companions or go out of their own way to have least amount of content possible. Would never do something like that on my first playthrough.

How can I have two characters? I will not replace Shadowheart and Mintara. And I'm not very interested in these two characters that I lost, they're annoying.

? You dont have to replace anyone. It is not Divinity where every companion that wasnt in your party dies after first act. You can have almost all of them. And i would not call Astarion or Karlach annoying.

I don’t know anything about Karlach, but Astarion has a very gay voice, I could only stand it when the beta came out in 2020, but the developers have gone a lot into the diversity theme since then, and I don’t want to mess with it too much, so I he just removed it. And the black friend is most likely a good-natured person, this is generally uninteresting and boring.

I like Lazael best. I am romancing her because I like how strict and forceful she is.

I rerolled Lae'zel as a Cleric of Valkith and it fits her RP/arc so well she is now the official 4th spot in my 3 + 1 custom party.
