Serious question about Circle of the Land Druids
So at levels 3, 5, 7, etc... you get the option to select a set of two spells (out of a list based on land type).

What I don't understand is why are they including some druid spells that the druid gets anyways?

For example, Level 3 (below). The spells with the '*', the druid gets anyways. So why have them as part of the "Bonus Spells"?

Bonus Spells
===================
Arctic
Sleet Storm* and Haste

Coast
Sleet Storm* and Call Lightning*

Desert
Protection from Energy* and Hypnotic Pattern

Forest
Call Lightning* and Plant Growth*

Grassland
Haste and Daylight*

Mountain
Call Lightning* and Fly

Swamp
Vampiric Touch and Stinking Cloud

Underdark
Gaseous Form and Stinking Cloud

=============================

When I level up a Circle of the Land Druid, I try to pick spells that the Druid doesn't normally get. Is this the right way to play it?

Those are spells that are always prepared, but can only be used once per long rest iirc. Basically it will free up a prepared spell slot of the more niche spells. Extra casts are always nice,

Druids know all their spells, but can only prepare some of them. So picking spells you already have access to basically gives you more versatility in combat when you can no longer switch out your spells.

However, that versatility isn't worth much in my opinion, and I personally absolutely would pick circles with spells that I don't normally have access to, just like you suggest.

Although, out of the ones you listed, I would pick one with Haste, because Haste is such a good spell.

It just means that those spells you pick are always prepared and don't count against the number you can already prepare. You can cast them as normal. So just pick spells you like and are likely to use.

That is my preference as well.

Same. Haste and plus these amazing spikes are my favourites. Good thing is you can also find a haste scroll on your journey which gale can learn so you have two people ready to cast haste instead of just yourself.
