Cant talk to anyone, NPC, party members etc
I know this is a semi known problem but there seems to be no real fix. I can't talk to NPC's or my own party so the game is dead in the water for me. Tried silencing myself and party trick but didn't work. I'm level 3 and was just in the beginning area where you lift the veil and the surroundings go from pretty to bad and there were creatures who thought they were sheep. I decided to just leave that area and go back to Emerald Grove and then no one would talk to me.

Anyone have any ideas or can't you guys hear me either? ;)

Were Mods EVER used with your BG3 game?

Most likely, I had a similar problem to OP in the past. I would also assume he is using mods, could only recommend a clean install or manually disabling mods one at a time, depending on what OP wants to do with his game

I don't know if it is the same issue or similar, but I had an issue at start of A3 where I couldn't talk to party members (in my group) but could talk to others (not in party, but in camp). People had mentioned the silence thing, as well as possibly attacking your main character, or killing them completely, or various things.

But for me what was worked oddly enough was someone said to change the graphics use (in my case, go from DX11 to Vulkan). I can't imagine why that would have any effect, but it seemed to fix it (unless it was coincidence). I played a short while like that, then ended up swapping back and it never popped back in. So if you haven't given that a go, it's at least worth a shot.

Yes, it happened after I installed the increased carryweight. I made the mod inactive but the issue still persists. Also I had a mod that wasn't working so I deleted it. So I guess one of those 2 things did it. I guess I'll reinstall

I did indeed install 1 mod and remove 1 mod. The mod I installed was increased carryweight and the one I removed was a mod that showed more items when I hit ALT. That mod never worked so I got rid of it. Seemed to happen after that. Maybe the game is looking for a file that is not there? I guess i'm reinstalling

likely it corrupted your game save. Best start over.

So when I fixed it, I removed a mod I dont remember the name of, but I also had to reload a save where the issue wasn't happening. Hopefully removing the single mod works for you, considering I had over 50+ mods, maybe removing that mod will work and you wont have to reload.

Try without reloading an old save, if it doesnt work, reload on a save where sleep was working.

Keep us updated if it works!

I uninstalled/reinstalled BG3 but that did not work. I saw that the carryweight mod went back to active so I made it inactive and this did not work. I then took your advice and went back to a previous save and now I can talk to people again :)

I want that carryweight mod though so i'm going to test it again and install it and see if it works. I still think the problem happened when I removed the broken mod I had. I'll keep you posted again :)

Kill them all and ress them from the skull guy in the camp. Worked for me!

There is a specific set of things you MUST do to recover from this type of problem. And while you can try to keep your Saves, they may not work without the Mod.

* Uninstall any Mods. Delete any remaining Mod files. Uninstall whatever Mod Manager you are using.
* Start BG3. At the Launcher window, click the settings Gear.
* Scroll down and find the "Open Profile Folder" button. Use it.
* That will take you to the AppData\Local\Larian Studios folder
* Navigate down to the \PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story folder.
* Copy out your Save games to a folder on the desktop
* Copy out the full path back to the Larian Studios folder so you can return there.
* Close Explorer and Close the BG3 Launcher
* Using Steam, Uninstall BG3. Then shut down Steam
* Delete any remaining BG3 files in the Steam\Common directory
* Navigate back to AppData\Local and delete the entire Larian Studios folder
* Start up Steam and install BG3
* After installation is complete and before you start BG3, verify that Cloud Saves for BG3 are OFF
* Start BG3 and start the game from the Launcher. When you get to the first BG3 screen, shut it down again.
* Copy your save files back to the Story directory. Be aware that they may be terminally corrupted by the Mods and never work.
* Start up BG3 and see if you can Load a game and Proceed. If it still fails, create a new Campaign character and see if that works.
* If the new character works but the old does not that means your save files are corrupted and no longer valid. You will just have to delete the files (or archive them) and start over.

Good Luck

I was able to get it working after I made the mod inactive and then active again and reverted to a previous save.

Thank you very much for taking the time to type all that info! I really appreciate it!!

Very nice after hours of searching when my mods seemingly broke my game out of nowhere. These instructions saved my friends and I playthrough! Everything worked except I could not go to camp and I couldn't talk to anyone. I could fast travel and open crates and such. But any triggered event would do nothing. I attacked a guard head on and he just healed himself and went on his way lol

Glad to have a method to resolve mod issues. Nothing else I found on reddit or Larian forums was fixing the issue.
