Turn-Based Mode doesn't do anything?
I'm turning on turn-based mode to try to sneak past patrols pretty early in the game -- but the enemies just keep moving around during my turns even when turn-based mode is on. What gives?

So, all TBM does it freeze time in your area basically. And unless they turn into hostiles, they arent affected

yeah TBM is kinda lousy like that. you basically just have a bubble of time-stop, and anything outside of that still moves normally.

so it doesn't really work half the time.

It's really a mess the hybrid real-time/turn based nonsense. It never properly works.

Alright, that's very counter-intuitive (and almost totally useless?) but at least I know my game isn't bugged. Thank you.

It aint cheesing, its trying to be sneaky. Its impossible to sneak around with a full party unless you use TBM

If four people try to break into your house you are very likely to notice. If one sneaky person is breaking in they have a far better chance of going undetected.

You do not have to use your whole party while sneaking. Separating one person to scout ahead or sneak around and set traps or steal one think quick/assassinate someone is perfectly fine.

Trying to sneak around 4 people is never going to be easy, and isn’t supposed to be.

However, they should also be able to sneak around outside in dark conditions. Or in large open dungeons. Theres a difference between a 25x20 foot room, and a huge ass room where they're actively patroling

I suppose that’s fair. When I’m in uncharted territory I tend to sneak everyone and walk as a group, often all that means is I’ll spot enemies before they spot us.

Yeah, I'm noticing this other places too -- like a Scrying Eye summon that's just floating in circles through the battlefield during a turn-based battle.

Sneaking as a group makes no sense from a roleplaying perspective anyway. Some considerations:

1. It's way easier to spot 4 people sneaking than one.
2. If you have a balanced party, at least one of them will be in shiny plate armour which you can see all the way from Avernus, or in some chain mail which could wake up a sleeping ogre while snoring.
3. In tight quarters, precision matters, you cannot expect to have 4 people bustled together moving there.

So metagaming aside, this would make no sense at all in tabletop and certainly is anectodal in a videogame as well.

The proper way is to sneak one by one (ungroup the party). Some of the party might not even be able to sneak past, for that matter.

yup. once encountered two groups of NPC's fighting one another, and since there is no pause button (which we desperately need) i hit turn-based mode in order to take a moment to drink potions and elixirs.

Well while i was doing that, i didn't realise the NPC's were not actually frozen, so one side defeated the other while i was still buffing up.

Well, that's why the shiny armor has a what, -2 or -3 to dex saves? To reflect how loud it is and how shiny it is.

It's done fairly frequently in tabletop should the party choose to. Though the fighter does usually take off the shinies as to not have the point loss to dexterity saves.

I am hoping OP also means that enemy patrols have a chance to move around fo their turn, otherwise that would make it toooo easy

Split your party around more and scout around one by one that increase the Turn based area by a lot... pets like raven ... work as well

BTW the mode is great one of rare few actual advancement this game made. GJ Larian, i got to say and give credit where credit's due....

Of course!

In this case I wanted to sneak one character through an area to set off an environmental trap before starting a battle. I wanted to use turn based mode to move that character so I could time their movements precisely. That doesn’t work because enemies in the same room are still patrolling while my character is “paused.”
