Most of the Ilithid powers also aren't very good because they use a full action - i would say only black hole, psyonic backlash and luck of the nine realms are good in that case. That said, if one of your characters can beat all the saving throws (mostly wisdom saves, iirc) when using the githyanki extractor thing in act 1, your ilithid powers use bonus actions instead which makes them much more useful.
With all that in mind, the best class to use ilithid powers would be someone who does not have better options for bonus actions AND reactions. That would be casters, probably, since they dont care about opportunity attacks and bonus actions. On top of that, casters won't have high strength to leap a mile like your martial classes so the ability to fly will help a lot. Looking towards the endgame, use a class that can black hole the enemy team then drop a huge aoe on them on the same turn - flamestrike, fireball, cloud of daggers, etc.
Having tricksters mage hand and all other classes having equipment.
Gith can without lost advantages be : wizard, warlock, sorcerer.
Heavy armor warlock focusing on defensive combat or dexterity sorcerer focusing on bows. Wizard is a little of exploiting multiclass since it doesn't gain much after level 2 and knights gain action surge.
Also, whichever of your party members is most likely to need a persuasion roll is a good candidate, because you can get a huge bonus for those. So if you have one high-CHA character in your party that you usually try to do all your persuasions with, they are a strong candidate.
