Best Solo Tactician Builds?
I'm not talking end game as there are many options when you reach end game, but what do people feel is the best solo build from start to finish?

I'm thinking contenders would be...

Gloomstalker variant
Warlock variant with darkness - Sorlock or Lockadin
Cleric variant with mix of wizard or sorc - possibly ice/lightning variant with wet
Monk variant
Necro wizard...although I feel you'd get wiped early

What do people think is strong throughout the game?

Edit: I'll add votes for builds/classes here

Bard 3
Gloomstalker 2
(playthrough video from Youtuber "Baldurs Gate 2" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75xaMVQVIx0)
TB Monk 5
Warlock/Darkness variant 1
Sorcadin 1
Champion/Berserker/Thief 1
Barb 1
Lockadin 1
Spore Druid 1

What build would you think from Bard? I know college of swords is strong with two hand crossbows, but I thought this took time to come online? Or is it effective as soon as you hit level 3?

I had the most fun with Gloom / Assassin.

I can't see going wrong with tavern brawler monk. But I'd for sure start it off with some fighter levels (race depending.)

Was playing TB, monk 8/fighter 4, in a coop game recently and it's ridiculous. You literally pick up and throw human sized enemies like it's nothing, have huge AC from fighter levels, (or race stuff) for the armour+shield and can do a flurry of TB boosted blows as a bonus action.

Even if you don't have one of the several weapons that return to your hand when thrown you can pack around a bunch of javelins and +1 throwable weapons, wreck things, and them pick them all up/reuse them after.

Then on top of that you can have some helpful monk subclass abilities and same for fighter. Yeah I was enjoying it, but it was a bit overkill. We were playing on tactician and just obliterating everything.

Edit: sidenote- you have to hit lvl 20 strength to 'throw human sized enemies like it's nothing.' Just thought I should be clear on that.

Just watching your monk solo video :) Would be good to hear you talk through your choices as you clearly know the mechanics very well

darkness is just stupidly broken. AI outside aoe can do nothing about it. you can just hit and comeback hide inside repeatly, they refuse to enter. imo it should get addressed.

Thank you. Added TB Monk in the edit and I'll collate votes for each build/class

Monk/Rogue tavern-brawler elixir-user. You can tank Strength and get high Dex/Wis, have like 30 hill giant pots by halfway point. Pickpocket, Disarm, High perception, Intimidate and Rogue convo options. Your conversation options aren't optimal, so you won't be talking your way out of too much, but you can stealth if need be, and nearly all your talents and bonus damage is short-rest based.

Con: You rely on pots of speed for your haste, and arrows for AOE (although you can get a ton of attacks every turn and you're near impossible to hit if you build that way.)

Monk for sure . As soon as you reach lvl 4-5 you are unstoppable

Once you get the Skinburster Tiger Heart Barbarians could probably solo everything past that point.

Really all this shows is how broken the game is.

Why champion specifically?

To be honest any class can do the job, just not in any combination.

If you don't make an abusive usage of long rest, you need at least 2 characters with high DPS with their weapons and 1 with utility spells (magic missiles, silence, darkness and other spells which turn the tide of battles).

If the DPS come from a warrior, berserk, gloomstalker, thief... isn't that important.
For the utility the choice is a bit more important because no class has the full kit of powerful spells, but bards are probably on top of the list (can do ALL the utility jobs alone and it's a decent fighters with some subclass).

For the last slot your are very free, but if you lack a character with DEX or CHA it should be your priority.
Because must often all the important jobs are already taken care off by the previous characters I have 1 spot left for anything else, so I like to go with a wizard to complement the DPS/utility depending of the needs of the moment, but I guess anything can do the job.
