What's with the lava Elemental

Is there something to do is there something to do with the lava Elemental story-wise or Quest wise or is he just there as a threat running around? I don't think it's at any other place but just in case I'm going to precise it at the forge in the underdark.

just a guy that triggers enviormental effects, ignore it or fight it, nothing changes besides exp.

the only thing i've found related to the lava elemental is boasting about it to the barman in act 2

Its just side trash mob kill and loot and loot on the island in the middle of the lava(and around it) nothing special. Easy kill if you range lure it from the lava too.

Sleet storm makes him easy mode (he'll fall down/go prone and he can't drop lava so he can't heal or explode), otherwise he's a complete PITA.

There's a quest that takes you to his lava area.

Use that necrotic cantrip that you know......prevents healing? Why waste your good spell slots for trash mob.

That area has a magical forge and a bunch of lava around it. So there's lava and magic, making it a natural-seeming environment for a lava elemental to appear if one wants to put a lava elemental in their game.

The only purpose for the quest is pure greed anyways. Why not take out a lava elemental for some loot and experience? It seems like some of your companions view the fight as 'a bit of fun'.

I was disappointed by the loot it dropped. I was expecting better from what seemed like a mini boss type enemy. Wasn’t worth the time.

the whole area seems to just be so you can get a specific quest amulet.
prevent healing from the weapon or spell and its pretty much 2 round fight.

Lava elemental is a waste of time. At first I thought the lava elemental is the one that destroyed the old sharran city in the underdark, but apparently in act 2 it is revealed that it's actually yurgir and his bands of merregon
