I've been playing on Linux since release, never played on Windows or Mac. It runs beautifully for me 4K/DLSS Quality/60FPS Cap. Arch/Proton Experimental/Vulkan, Ryzen 5900X, NVIDIA 3080 12GB. Your mileage may vary.

DLSS is in use not for performance reasons but rather energy saving reasons. I always turn on DLSS if I can't notice a meaningful difference in a game as it's just less load on GPU and therefore less to pay on my energy bill and less impact on our habitat.

I know you CAN play it on Linux, I know there's stuff you can ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ finagle because people OTHER THAN THE DEVELOPERS OF THIS GAME have worked tirelessly to make it compatible... but that's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing, isn't it?

The DEVELOPERS have not. And this game is not open source. There WILL be issues. I don't even see Larian communicating with the linux community at all.

But they're showing favoritism to mac users. It's gross!

Okay yeah, I'm overreacting. But that's my right as a modern human with emotional underdevelopment and information overload.

Maybe. Until now it works nearly flawlessly, and for the little quirks once or so per week I don't even know if they are Linux specific since I cannot compare to Windows.

I tended to agree to you in the past, but after experiences with multiple games with native support for Linux, I prefer that the devs just enable support for Proton (unlike e.g. Lost Ark). Because the Linux version gets (for understandable reasons, we can always dream otherwise) fewer resources/tests/love so it is often less stable than the Windows version running on Proton (if I remember correctly this was e.g. the case for Wasteland 3).
So they basically wasted resources for a worse version, which is bad both for them and us.

Because there is no such thing like Proton, I assume.

No need for native linux support anymore. That's what Proton is for.

Proton is a wrapper to convert DX calls to Vulcan. Neither exist on Mac. It's Metal. There is now a Vulcan/DX to Metal wrapper but it's only for devs (cuz apple likes it's users to pay twice for the same product.)

You know who put a lot of work into Proton? The Wine developers...

I don't think anyone actually traces anything back to its root any more and just assumes whoever serves them the product is who made it.

I wonder if people like this go to restaurants and assume the waiter made their food.

Use ProtonGE and you're set. Also most games aren't "Native" to linux because Devs have to account for what Distros most people would be playing on and there are like hundreds of them. Which is why the few native linux games there are on Steam all use an outdated version of Ubuntu.

SteamOS exists now. They could shoot for that.

What do you mean SteamOS exists? You mean the 3 year old incredibly outdated build they refuse to update or they actually released the Steam Deck version to the public??

Okay I get it. We're all upset here. Let's just calm down before somebody gets hurt.

How about Ubuntu? Can we all agree on Ubuntu? Ubuntu seems fine. What's wrong with Ubuntu?

Just a ⁺¹ from 2024 — I was considering buying the game, but I don't want to support the game developers till they build a Linux version.

I'm not sure what's the big deal, you already have a Mac version and the game supports Vulkan. Just compile it for Linux 🤷‍♂️ Also, didn't the same team release "Divinity Original Sin" which has a Linux version? What happened?
