MacBook low performance
MacBook Pro
16-inch, 2021
Chip: Apple M1 Max
Memory: 64 GB
macOS: latest (Ventura 13.6)

I was so excited to play the game, but
1. Fans turned on in main menu. (very high temperature just from launching the game)
2. It was lagging (probably means low FPS) during character creation
3. Low FPS when I appeared on Nautiloid and during movement.
Lowering graphical settings to medium helped to make movement smooth, but my laptop should handle Ultra with ease.

Also noticed that CPU and Memory usage did not exceed 10% at all times, but disk reads/writes were pretty high. (Monitored via “Activity Monitor”)

Does anyone know if I can make it work on Ultra as requirements mentioned or the game (Mac version) is just as bad as most Mac ports in Steam?

NOTE: I had cloud saves from Windows laptop and they had been downloaded locally before I turned off cloud sync in Steam.
NOTE 2: It took me 5 hours to download the game, so I will try to reinstall the game as a last attempt.

I'm running the game on M2 Max, it is running very smooth on that chip, i expect around 50-60 fps average with everything on ultra on the maximum resolution with FSR set to the highest quality setting.

I run a first-gen M1 MacBook Pro with 16gb ram, which is slightly above the minimum recommended and it has been running on Ultra in Act 1 just fine. Fans spin up during the dialogue cut scenes, but other than that I have no performance issues. I expect as I get further in I will have to drop the settings down, but for now its going great. With your specs, your macbook should be handling this no problem, so that's weird.

Ok, thank you guys. So the issue is local, not the game itself. I’ll try to find the cause, but would be great to hear any suggestions.

The games demanding, no way would a macbook run it at ultra at just under 4k lol

Same on M2 Max, the game is smooth, but the fans are very loud and the temperature is very high, don’t know will that be a problem

The game did this (overheating and fans running) on M1 and M2 chipset MacBooks during pre-release and the issue was reported by many. Not sure why they did not optimize it for the full release.

Chip: Apple M1 Max I have identical machine, I get 75 EPS on Ultra settings, of course laptop runs hot after playing some time, but thats law of thermodynamics. You should keep it plugged into power supply when you play as most basic step 1. You probably have hardware issue with machine if game does not work. Take it to Apple repair center to check power circuit, cooling, the works.

It is an Apple Silicon Processor one (not intel), probably the one with the 32-core GPU. The game runs better on my macbook pro M1 than on my GTX 1060. It runs 40FPS on Ultra FSR off, 50-60FPS FSR ultra (40FPS inside act 3 lower city).

ofc its gonna run better than a 1060 the 1060 is 7 years old and 3 generations behind coming close to 4 generations behind 😂 but it's still a macbook, no idea why people that buy macs knowing they are not the best for gaming try running demanding games then going why does this not run properly

macs always have worse performance in games

How old it is has nothing to do with performance in games, what matters is the specs. Macbook pro 2019 can't run this game properly. Neither can I run BG3 or Half Life: Alyx on my mom's new Asus notebook, and the 7yo 1060 can. OP's computer model meets the requirements, the brand is irrelevant.

Ofc how old it is makes a difference lmao If you seriously think a 1060 was going to be on par with an M1 on a much newer architecture that's some straight up delusion

nobody is buying a notebook for gaming, or if they are, they are equally delusional because they are not meant for it and dont even have a dedicated GPU only iGPUs

a 1060 running this game at just under 4k? good luck with that 🤣

I agree nobody should buy them for gaming, even if they had dedicated GPUs you know most games aren't compatible. I have mine for programming (You can get better performance with Linux though), some other people get them for video edition, others because they like MacOS and others for the aesthetics. But it makes no sense to buy extra devices or pay GeForce now subscription if your current hardware can support the games you want to play.

I don't know if by 4k you are talking about the price or resolution. I'm running this game on Ultra in 1920x1080 on my PC (40FPS) and native resolution 1512x982 on my Macbook (50-60FPS). There is something wrong with Formeme computer or files.

the macbook he said he has runs at just under 4k based on the specs from apple in terms of resolution, unless he turns the resolution down it makes perfect sense for it to run like ass

anything that cannot use DLSS is going to suffer, FSR is ok but until they release the new version of it, DLSS is miles ahead

Does he say he is trying to run it at 4k though? I believe by ultra he meant Ultra preset, not Ultra HD.
