But by all means, let's create new controversies.
Pent(5)agrams have five points. This pretty clearly has 6.
What about the demons/devils. Those are certainly old testament/Torah... but don't want to include those in your displeasure as well?
I don't disagree there's disconcerting aspects of the game, but if the game was carefully designed not to offend anyone that may play it, then there would be zero story or substance to draw from.
"it's a pentagram" hahaha better check your vision, it's been obstructed by gay.
1. "It's a pentagram" Go back to elementary school. Learn how to count. It is two stars (With six corners, and six sides, not five and five, for those who are too lazy/stupid to use google) and not a pentagram. It is very clearly Star of David/Star of David-adjacent (for people using the excuse it's an alchemical symbol)
2. "You're reaching/stirring drama/whatever" I am not. I didn't even have to mention it to friends who were watching me play for them to also go "Does that guy have the star of david carved into his face?" Just because you don't care about a jewish caricature being in a game, doesn't mean other people don't. I like this game otherwise.
3. "How is the golem an issue" I will refer to Gracey Face's comment here because it summarizes the issue better than I care to argue with people who care so little they had to comment how little they cared.
'From what I have seen of people complaining about it the idea of a golem made of flesh is blasphemy to Jews. I am not well versed in their theology but the issue is something along the lines of Golems should be made of inanimate material, as Adam (from Adam and eve) was a golem who through a spark of divinity transcended being made of clay and became flesh. The idea of a flesh golem is as such belittling the idea of humans being special. Or something along those lines.'
4. "I'm Jewish and I don't have a problem with this" Cool for you. Other Jewish people do have a problem with flesh golems. That's a personal opinion and not a group opinion.
5. "There's no other antisemitism, you're being sensitive" Yes there is. Goblins, Witches (The classic hag with a long nose and a pointy hat), and various other creatures are literally all centuries-old Jewish caricatures that have taken the test of time where people ignore it nowadays. If I was being sensitive, I wouldn't play DND, baldur's gate, or hundreds of thousands of other games where various caricatures were portrayed. There is a difference in shelling out the same arguments over whether or not goblins belong in a fantasy setting and pointing out that the Jewish-named, Star of David carved into his face, with the creature Jewish people have said is an abomination to their culture, might be a bit of a problem. All I did was kill him and move on. I didn't cry, I didn't piss my pants, I asked if other people noticed it, because this is too many signs to brush off that someone on the team did this on purpose.
6. "Only dogs hear dogwhistles/Any other way of saying I'm being antisemitic" The way to stop dogwhistles is by recognizing them and calling them out. While I myself am not Jewish I do come from a Jewish bloodline, and have had many, many experiences of people being subtle or outright with their hate of my heritage. I don't care when it happens to me, because I will stop it in it's tracks one way or another. I do care when I notice widerspread caricatures, bigotry, and hatred, because that affects others.
I hardly expect anyone to actually read this, but if you do, and all you're going to say is -1 perception, you're sensitive, or whatever, just move on. I'm not going to respond to this any more because the post has been taken over by people who have no idea what they're talking about. To those who cared to actually do their research, thank you.
If you don't like it - don't play it. Isn't it what people say these days?
The Symbol carved into Balthazar's facet involves an upturned triangle above it that connects to the star's peak by blood.
It's a diabolic, Necromantic symbol of power in D&D.
Very much has more in common with the symbolism of Devil Worship than it does the Jewish Symbol.
The guy is literally made from other peoples' body parts.

That's the Star of David.
While if you look closely to Balthazar's, it's comprised of a much greater Triangle, with a much smaller, inverted triangle toward the bottom-center of it, and comes off longer width-wise.
The smallest Triangle is at the peak, upside down.
The actual structure and shape of the symbol matters in theological symbolism. This is not a case like where Hitler literally took the Hindu symbol for peace and used it for his regime.
Or a case of Devil Worshippers taking the Christian Cross and turning it upside-down (summarily and hilariously also unaware that an upside-down cross is also a christian symbol, not linked to Satanism, which was made popular by... Hollywood fad).
This desire to be offended is worrying.
Things can have multiple meanings at the same time. You are actively deciding that specific time-frame references to these objects mean exactly what you want them to mean without acknowledging they can mean something entirely different depending.
The "Star of David" only got popular for Jewish usage because Kabbalah mystics decided to use the hexagram for their own purposes. It's not originally "Jewish". Never was.
"Golem" as Jewish folklore is a mere invention way, way after the actual usage of the term in Torah. Psalms 139:16 uses the word and it just means something yet to be made in form.
If you wanted to be offended because recent culture dictates that you do -- then that is on you. I don't care. I see the flesh golem as something from D&D and not meant to be used offensively. Grow a thicker skin.
As for the name? Well, it may have a form in the Book of Daniel, but it wasn't the given name of a Hebrew as far as I can tell.
Who. Cares.
So tired of people either trolling or just fishing to be offended. It's fake. It's fantasy. Enjoy the game for what it is.
