Game won't launch on MacOS
I get the message: Failure
Failed to start process for Baldur's Gate 3: OS Error 4294956469

I try uninstalling and re-installing the full version (I'm on my third attempt today). It still doesn't launch. Error appears right after I click "Launch" game.

At least you got an error. All I got was "sorry, this mod needs a level to open the main menu", and I have no idea what this even means.

I get the same error (attempting to launch the full Mac version after having uninstalled the EA version, which was working fine). Alas.

Then it is easy to solve.

That is something I expect from someone who did not clean up the early access files.

In Windows that would be the local AppData files which will cause incompatibilities, as long as you cleaned up properly the savegames and Steam folders as described in the public service announcement by Larian Studios.

I solved the OS Error 4294956469 issue by uninstalling with Steam, and the using external software (CleanMyMac X) to remove all the residue and remnants of Baldur's Gate 3 that Steam left behind. You can also just search using the Finder for "Baldurs Gate" to find stray files. Clean installing after that worked a treat, and I'm in!

what steam server did you luck into finding that downloaded it for all these clean installs? The fastest I've found peaked at 60 Mbps. I've got HOURS to go before it downloads.

im running mac OS Senoma beta on a macbook air m2 and get the exactly same problem. is there a solution? ive cleared all ea stuff, and then did it again with the full release, did a clean install and same problem.

Running on Mac, m2. The beta was flawless and worked better than my Ryzan 9 gaming PC. but now it crashes. The open portal menu is odd, with only a white play button. It will load the first 2 logos and a second of the percentage loading screen. Then it crashes, no error report, nothing. I have verified files, validated the game, and even validated my Steam library to know all files are working.

I'm not having any luck launching the game either.

You're going to laugh, but here's what worked for me:
On Steam, Right click on Baldur's Gate 3 > Manage > Browse local files

This will open Finder with the game icon with a "cancel" symbol displaying over it, and will give the same error if you try to open it directly. Select the game and delete it (move to trash).

Now open the trash and move it back to where it was (you can do right click > "Put back"). Once it's back on its folder, the "cancel" icon should be gone and the game will launch now!

You’re a genius! Thanks so much, it worked for me. Mysteries!

Okay people, I finally got mine working (Intel iMac), it was a ridiculous process but I will post everything I did and hopefully it’ll work for others:

- Created a new user account on my mac just for running BG3 to make sure my user files weren’t going to contaminate the process. I also booted into Recovery Mode and ran First Aid to check for any other outlying issues.

- Fresh install of steam (including the application support files, except for the commons folder if you’re doing this on an account with previously installed games. in that case, make sure you delete any previous installs of BG3 from that folder as well before continuing).

- Fresh install of BG3, left open overnight and turned on Auto-Launch so that it would start verifying because it took 4~5 hours for Mac OS’s verification process to complete.

- At this point, the game was installed and verified, but trying to open it only resulted in the BG3 game icon bouncing for a few minutes then just sitting there doing nothing. I gave it an hour just in case, then force quit BG3 and Steam.

- Opened System Preferences and gave Full Disk Access and Accessibility permissions to the BG3 app. Made sure Steam had the same access. Restarted computer.

- Tried launching from the BG3 app outside of Steam, didn't work.

- Opened Steam, disabled cloud saves and did a Steam verification check for the integrity of the files of the BG3 install (took about 1 hour).

- Launched BG3 from Steam and alas, it worked.

I solved the problem by lauching the the game itself without Steam.
I don't remember where exactly, but you can find the game in your Mac directory (you will recognize it easily: it has its own icon).

I launched it, it worked. I played a bit, saved my progress, then tried again with Steam. This time, it worked with Steam. Since then, I haven't had a problem.

I also did the whole "install / uninstall" thing of Steam AND the game multiple times, but it's the solution I just described that did the trick.
