My Tav/MC will NOT shut up during combat.
I decided to remake my D&D character in BG3. He's a Gnome Bard named Alvyn. And he will not stop talking during combat, having something to say with just about every attack the enemy or my party makes. It's starting to get a little annoying, especially since it's nothing like how I play Alvyn in the tabletop.

EDIT/UPDATE: So, turns out some mods I had, unsure which ones, were causing Cutting Words to proc 4 to 8 times, sometimes more, per fight without using up a reaction or Bardic Inspiration uses. After I got rid of all of my mods and did a fresh clean reinstall, the issue stopped being an issue.

You just about to convince me to play a Dark Urge bard.
I've to try this now.

But it's happening automatically, I'm not pressing anything or doing anything on my end. There a way to stop it from happening? And I don't think it's using bardic inspiration on my end cause it's happening 4 to 8 times per a fight and I do not have that many uses of Bardic Inspiration, I'm only 3rd Level.
Check the reactions and set Cutting Words to "Ask".

As for how it's triggering so many times without costing Bardic Inspiration, either a mod removed that cost, or a mod caused a bug where the voice line triggers even if the reaction was not used.

Yeah, that's why I'm removing my mods. Doing a clean reinstall too just in case. Will let ya'll know if the issue is fixed.

Turns out it was my mods. Not sure which mod(s) was causing it, but the taunting has gone from 4 to 8 times a fight to maybe once or twice after removing all mods and doing a fresh/clean reinstall.

Do you have the sword Phalar Aluv equiped? I noticed a big increase in my bard saying things in combat one I started using that sword.

Honestly, I do think that the character "dialogue" is out of place in this game. Considering you only hear your character's voice lines for random unimportant side talk as well, and considering the voice options are extremely limited (not even a pitch slider) - you can't even make the character sound like you would want them to.

No megalomaniacal deep gnome villains can be played, or hyper-barbaric Half-Orcs - or so on. You are stuck with a couple of generic voice actors (per sex) who have to basically work overtime to try to cover the plethora of potential characters you can make.

I honestly love the voice acting in this game for the most part, but the player voice acting is so limiting that it actually ends up breaking my immersion more often than not. If there were an option to disable player voice lines entirely it would be better I think for my immersion, unless they record other voice actors or at least give us a pitch slider for the voice lines.

Edit: Oh, you were having a bug. Nevermind then, lol. Might want to pin that you figured it out as the "topic answer" or edit your original post.

Seriously though I am playing a bard and I dont notice any over talking in fights so I wonder if its a gnome thing

It's like everytime the enemy misses a shot, Alvyn has to to mock the enemy for missing. One line, if I heard/read correctly, had him calling the guy with the flaming sword on the Nautiloid a 'gobby knob gobbler' when the guy missed an attack.

Removed my mods and reinstalling the game to see if it might have been one of my mods that is making the taunts happen so frequently.
Oh that is a class feature, I think. Like as a reaction when they mock the target it is like one of their cantrips that will give that enemy disadvantage on their next roll or your allies an advantage on a counter attack to it.
That will proc a LOT
