Is Baldur's Gate 3 connected to the Baldur's Gate Saga? Or is it completely stand-alone story within the same setting??
Good day! I have adventured too deeply in yet, but I've played through the Baldur's Gate Saga many times and it seemed to have a complete story. Am I understanding correctly that Baldur's Gate 3 isn't really connected to that story any more so than any other title that has been created in the Forgotten Realms setting? Or is Baldur's Gate 3 actually a new part of the Saga?

Its connected to Baldurs Gate 1 and 2. Especially if you play the Dark Urge origin.

The added a companion from each game so they can say that it relates to them. Nothing else.

Untrue, there is significantly related story connections.

It is connected in that it takes place in the same area and some characters from the earlier games show up as a result of it being the same area. But its not a direct sequel, the story of those games is wrapped up. This is a new adventure.

Connected stuff. Play the Dark Urge to learn that they are a bhaalspawn and dealing with the issues of being a child of the god of murder.
You also meet Sarevok in act3 and learning of the fates of several of the other Bhaalspawn, and you can even join the cult of Bhaal and give in to your murderous father. Getting the Slayer form as a reward.

Thank you both for the answers. I'm itching now to see how the Dark Urge origin connects to the original Saga. From my limited reading up on it, most of what I've seen related to the second post, where only a handful of cameo references were connected. I was rather hoping that Baldur's Gate 3 would connect to the original Saga more so than Neverwinter Nights or any other titles that are just in the same setting. Thank you again. Looking forward to the Dark Urge origin now, at least.

Tbh, i think the Dark urge is supposed to be canon story for Bg3, given what you learn about its origin.

It should not have been called Baldur's Gate 3, because anything really related to the first 2 titles is more of a side quest. The writing in this one is OK, but the Companions are dog s*** in comparison.
you dont know what you are talking about.

So as far as I know, all the events in this game are canon to WotC's other releases in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Right at the beginning of the game you even experience the direct continuation of a D&D campaign published by WotC after its story end. The other games (BG1 & 2, Planescaoe Torment and Neverwinter Nights) are also canon, it seems.

The three games are actually only related in the fact that they are set around and in Baldur's Gate and the previous events also happened here at least.

This game is definitely a Baldur's Gate how fans of the old saga deserved it.

The companions or the side quest opinion?

both. all.

These people saying it's not connected to the first two games either haven't played the game or have never played Dark Urge.

Play Dark Urge.

They so vastly different and made by a totally different group with their own used ideals and ideas.
Takes place many many years later with little real connection etc...

Even Diznay Star Wears is more connected too Star Wars, so if you think Diznay is not Star wars then 200% no if you think it is then maybe too tiny extent.
Ranpo Sep 21, 2023 @ 3:35am
It is connected, who do you think Minsc and Jaheira are?
