How often should one take a "Long Rest"?
I do my best not to use any abilities that need to be recovered from resting unless I'm in a serious situation and even then they seem to fail often. So I get the impression I might be missing out on some important events pertaining to the camp.

You need to long rest but as you've most likely sussed out through gameplay the game itself does not lend you to resting, it wants you to take advantage of buffs as long as possible and nab all potentially time sensitive quests. WHILE it gates plot points behind the long rest it is disincentivizing you from taking. It makes no sense and seems such an elementary part of game design that I'm perpetually flabbergasted by it

I do rest after 2 conditions:

- I've used most resources that requires a long rest.
- I'm low on HP and used my 2 short rests already.

If you're avoid using it in fear of being flagged for bad ending or fail a quest, you shouldn't. The only way to fail something by rest is if you already triggered the scene that begins the quest and it's presented as urgent - like the Inn Fire quest.

Yep, this can happen, especially in Act 1. There's a lot going on with the main q as well as companions. I think it's a good idea to rest at least after any quest completion (incl. side quests) but definitely don't try to avoid resting if you're hurt. It's hard to pinpoint a frequency as there's no time in the game so... just rest when you are low on hp and out of short rests.

You know you can send your camp supplies to camp and don't have to carry them at all ?

It's annoying to do them one at a time. Better to just fill your bag then send that bag over and take another bag from a companion since they all start with one and start filling that up when you need weight. You can rest even if they are in the bag in the chest.
Control click is your friend :)

I tried playing like that but it gets boring, plus I have enough supplies to rest after 1-2 fights max.

I prefer Shift click for the camp supplies. Click on the first supply, scroll to the last one, shift+click on the last one, it selects everything in between. Control click only selects one at a time, useful in the regular backpack.

recently i've been collecting any pouches i see to store my scrolls and objects i don't want to loose / accidentally sell.

it occurs to me i could probably do the same with camping supplies. Grab a pouch or backpack or something, open it, drag and drop all my camping supplies into it, send it to camp, and now it's in the chest while i still have access to the bag that automatically collects all the food i pick up.

Why do you want to organize camping supplies? you don’t need to take them out of the chest to use them.

Long rest as often as you can until you exhaust all camp event. Camp supply will be abundant especially if your hand are a little light

not on tactical because it costs 80 food, it can get a little tight if you want to do a full rest too often, I was running out and struggling to find vendors to buy more from in act 3 until I hit lv 11 and had access to 'heroes fest' on shadowhart and jaheira, but your point still stands and you can always just do a long rest without using food.

You can do partial rest (costs no food) and still get the cutscenes.
