best place for getting smokepowder?

Make not of any vendors selling explosives. Visit and buy/steal from them every long rest and every time you respec a character. You will soon have a large amount of explosives.

One of the best places in act one is probably inside the goblin camp. When you go in to meet priestess Gut, she will take you to a room. To the left of the room she tries to take you in, there's another room to the left and that room is filled with firewine and smokepowder barrels. Occasionally, vendors will also sell small smokepowder bombs but i've never seen one sell any in act 1. I'd recommend Karlach in your party since she has a larger weight threshold than any of the other companions and is more likely to be able to throw the barrels as well.

Also remember to hold ALT as sometimes it highlights things worth looking at and sometimes you can find really useful stuff that way!
