Anybody else found "Scratch's Ball"?

Be warned - Some Light Spoilers for Act III ahead.




So I guess everybody knows, that you can play fetch with Scratch from Act I as soon as he brings you his play ball, which has no special item name, just "Ball".

Then, once exploring Rivington in Act III you encounter the "real" owner of Scratch, the unfriendly woman next to the post office with two other caged dogs.

But already in my first playthrough I found something else a little bit later in the city of Baldurs Gate that I cannot explain to myself. In the Building behind the wine festival, where the dwarf poisons and stabs the woman... in the cellar of that building, which is called Highberry's Home, i found another Ball and that one is specifically called "Scratch's Ball".

However when i bring it to camp and try to throw it, Scratch doesn't react to it at all. It only works with the Ball he brings to you.

Anybody found that second ball aswell or can explain? [\spoiler]

Yeah, thought it was a bug - ie. a mix up in item ids

Yeah I've been wondering that myself. Thought it was a bug. Might try to summon him while exploring the house again (apparently it's kind of orphanage too?)

yes, i thought that aswell. i mean the building hosts the wine festival, but also there are some orphans strolling around :D

I'm still waiting to get the first ball. Is it just random when you get it? I start and end each rest giving him pets. Best part of the game for someone with allergies to real dogs!

First get the toy ball in camp. Scratch will have an exclamation to talk with him. Need Speak with Animals. He will give it to you and mentioned you could throw it if you would like.

And yeah, later you get a toy ball called Scratch's ball but it does not serve any extra purpose.

Nice! Thank you, so it's just a matter of waiting for when Scratch wants to talk. I play a druid, and spend a lot of time in animal form anyway, because I do love to talk to all the random animals out and about.

I love that they took the time to animate a bear climbing a ladder.

I guess, you were right. Apparently they fixed it with this patch. At least, the ball he gives to you is now called scratch's ball. In my current playthrough I'm not yet in the city again to confirm it, tho.
