So I lost it and can't forge a weapon for the quest. Am I missing out a lot? Like experience points or an effective weapon?

How do you lose it? But, no, you're not mussing out on much. The weapon might be okay when you get it, but that's about it. Any missed experience won't matter either in the end.

Weapon that silences enemies, but damage wise there are better weapons in act 1 already.
Still, in case of dagger it can be pretty useful as an offhand weapon for someone, who doesn't really use their bonus action a lot

I only made the dagger but it was a +1 with an on-hit sleep. Not gamebreaking if you don't get it. Makes a decent weapon for Shadowheart or Gale, but they usually attack with cantrips.
