companion races all elves and human?
Where is the dwarf companion?

You can not have a good D&D rpg without the drunken dwarf!

In the latest video they show the back of a few ( i think ) other companions...

But not a dwarf or gnome its all elves and humans.

I never play a dwarf or gnome, but i like a dwarf in my party.

anyone have some more info?

Looking forward for BG3!!

If the opening chamber has anything to go by, it looks to be around 10 total 'alcoves' assuming room for spares and minimally 1 'custom' by default (as Larian has said it's about YOU, expressing an interest to make customs WAY MORE valid than DOS2's from a plot POV) we can safely assume up to 4 additional companions. But expect 3.

I am hoping they jump out of their obvious comfort zone, for marketing reasons I understand filling the front page with mostly Humans or the most Human looking not-Humans, with 1 token weird one (Sorry Githyanki, you weird) although from a DnD prospective, the Githyanki aren't that different from Humans when you have multiple reptilian options.

My hope is that they bring in 1 additional girl for the font page lot - ideally a Human, so contend with marketing and then spend the remaining 2-3 slots on the stuff the average gamer / non-dnd type may not know exists.

I for one, would love to see more of the Fae options; Dwarves remain a personal favourite as well (I fully intend, in my planned full group playthroughs, to play a full party of Dwarves).

Half-Orc and Dragonborn, either of these should have representation as well. Close a lot of mouths and make twice that, happy.

Its been stated that each writer at Larian will be writing atleast 1 origin character. At the time they said that they had, I think 11, writers, so we could be looking at anywhere between 10-13 Origin characters.

Where are the leprechaun companions with the tall green hats or a Troll companion? Just because we have to play the game under a bridge or next to the end of a rainbow we won't get these companions?
OP is nonsense. One of main figures is Githyanki lady, while Thiefling was presented both as origin character and NPC as well.

I'm sure we'll be getting more over time and Larian probably wants to deliver all popular races sooner or later - the question is how much time it takes.
I'm going to take the unpopular stance and dunk on all the people who seem to think resources are infinite and more always is better. I really hope Larian won't get tempted to going all Bioware rainbow ark of diversity, but instead go for quality over quantity, depth over width.

When you have a 4 person party, most people tend to stick with 3 companions and the rest become more or less permanent subs - and a reminder on how artificial (yet needed not to bog down slow DnD5e combat too much) party limits really are.

In D:OS2 there were 6 companions, of which the half you didn't chose for your party would die. This way you avoided too much redundancy and also the artificial feel to swapping party on the fly. BG3 has 5 known companions for now, and they will likely add more. They are a bit light on martial and short-race characters, so a bearded female would kind of fill a trans woman intersectional quota set by WotC lol. That kind of representation would be welcome as I don't think I've ever seen a female dwarf in fantasy-dom; they all tend to be haggis-eating Scotsmen for some reason!

Dnd 5e combat really should not be slow, at least not compared to other editions or DOS2, once you understand it its fairly simple. If you are playing with a real life group and they are slow on their dice it can drag but thats true with any table top RPG and it wont be an issue in a video game.

Pillars of eternity had a dwarven female hunter ( no beard :p ) :castmagicmissile:
There can be only one dwarven companion and it should be Khelgar Ironfist. Legend says, his tummy is still aching like a baby's cradle.

Some wonder if there even are Dwarf women, perhaps Dwarfs just spring out of holes in the ground!

Of course, they’re so alike in voice and appearance they are often mistaken for dwarf men.

I personally would like it if companions stories continued without you, hell imagine if they became your rivals because your goals conflicted (by following another route or similar)

I've yet to see anything like that implemented but it sure would be cool.

DOS2 does actually do this, which is cool for that game, but I would rather they go the Dragon Age: Origins route, where whoever isn't in the party stays at camp (so long as you have recruited them at least once), and you can swap between them based on who you think would cover your weaknesses, or make for more interesting dialog encounters.

Dragon Age: Origins Awakening (DLC) had Sigrun
Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide had Dorna Trapspringer
I doubt that what Wizards are doing now will be implemented in BG3. Their statements are only recent because they're trying to score political points and the game has been in development long before any of this nonsense came up.

Whether or not it's implemented, isn't going to stop me from role playing a Half Orc (maybe even full blood?) as a dim witted, excessively horny savage.

My characters are written to appeal to MY fantasies, not anybody else's!
Hey, as long as your goal is to amass a harem of concubines, it doesn’t matter how you go about doing it. Whether it’s Metal Gear Solid 5 or Dragon’s Dogma: if the game allows you to build a harem, you’re not playing it right if you fail to do so.

My first playthrough will probably be as the wizard with a bomb in his chest, and my first task will be to make Shadowheart get a less ridiculous hairstyle.

I’ll be going drow or half drove because they included them in that same statement as well.
