What are the unique abilities of the companions? Obvious spoilers
I've been checking online for the unique abilities of your companions but it's quite hard to find, if available if at all.

I'd like to make a list of the unique abilities they have. I've kinda stuck with the companions you get at the start (aside from Lae'zel who suicided when I didn't let her speak with the Githyanki) so I don't know all that much.

What I've found so far is:
Astorian: gets a bite that lets him drain blood from enemies, debuffing/damaging enemies while he gets healed and a powerful buff til long rest.
Gale: Can explode, wiping everyone nearby, including self. While I haven't used it, I'd imagine it useful against the final boss.
Karlach: can be fed coins to, which gives her a strong buff but the coins are rare and it only works if she's barbarian, limiting options. Also charm resistance when you improve her engine.
Shadowheart: No unique abilities so far, but she gets gear that, I imagine, you cannot get otherwise.
Wyll: gets good rewards if he does mizoras bidding.
Halsin: A unique cave bear wildshape
Minthara: A unique bonus action that applies fire damage to the next attack
Jaheira: Allows you to recruit Minsc
Minsc: Unique companion summon in Boo

Now, I haven't finished the game yet, but I'm gonna need all useful info I can get with the new game that I plan to make so much harder through mods that the easiest creatures can wipe you.

Not everyone has a 'unique ability' but rather, unique stuff sometimes.
Astarions gets his Bite which is just a solid ability through the whole game.
Karlach gets charm resist when you upgrade her engine. and the coin thingy i always forget about.
Shadowheart gets a unique weapon depending on choices.
Gale gets his nuke which is pretty useless.
Wyll can get a really good rewards if he does mizoras bidding.
Lae'zel doesent seem to get any unique stuff actually. you can get all the githyanki rewards even without her.

Yeah I made a githyanki myself, so I a lot of stuff from that, making me think that it is useful to have one in your team. But man, are they ugly to look at, haha.
Okay the charm resist is good to know, and Wyll I'll also add to the list

You dont really need a githyanki. Sure they are useful. but if you go with astrions 'canon' class. arcane trickster you get ascess to most of the the githyanki psyonic abilities but they can be used multiple times and on your allies.

Overall if you want to min-max with race and everything then Human, Halfling and tieflings are the best races.

I suppose the bonus of lae'zel is that she can use the silver sword to its full potential.

Sure, but that's all githyanki. And you can just disguise yourself as one for the bonus.

Shadowheart and Wyll mainly get unique gear. The former picks up the Spear of Night and the Justiciar's Half-Plate and Helm in Act 2. The latter gets a unique robe and raiper specifically tailored for him.

Halsin begins play with his special Cave Bear wildshape, which is understatted and does not scale, therefore useless.

Jaheria enables you to recruit Minsc, and Minsc has a unique animal companion summon in Boo.

To my knowledge Lae'zel gets nothing, but the Gith psionics are unique and useful enough to count tbh. She's not required for any gear, but getting the hammer from Raphael in Act 3 does also get you the Silver Sword of the Astral Plane from Voss, if you have her and didn't steal it early on at least.

Thats odd IMO, You'd think the sword would know a true Gith from a false one, they could of at least given her a unique silver sword only she can wield.

Wyll can get a rapier that summons a cambion

Gale's orb isn't a real special ability, it's a game over button.

Shadowheart with my choices got a spear that casts moonbeam and one other spell I can't remember. But moonbeam is the powerful one for a couple of act 3 boss fights.

Minthara has a special bonus action called Soul branding, which gives bonus fire damage on the next weapon attack. The damage doesn't scale so it's getting less and less impressive as the game progresses, but it remains a nice way to spend her bonus action without spending resources.

the other ability is a light sphere that slows down enemies and makes allies stronger while inside.

Oh, is it? I kinda figured if I move Gale away from the party, like to the other end of the map and then use it, it'd affect anemies and gale, but not the rest.

Nah, it doesn't even have an animation for killing anything that's on screen, it just gives you a game over while gale is still standing in the background.
