Shovel and Sorcerers: impossible affinity?

I tried all possible combinations I could think of for keeping the cheeky Quasit as permanent summon but no dialogue to keep her appears and once she leaves my service I don't see any change in the hotbar to suggest I gained a permanent summon spell.

So, to cut it short: is it possible to keep Shovel permanently when playing like a Sorcerer?

I learned her yesterday on a Rogue with a one level dip into Sorcerer. Admittedly, it was a Draconic Sorc, for free Mage Armor, but it worked. She still has the "you smell like a dragon" line. Just gotta say you have dragon blood and it'll change the topic back to the main one.

Yep, you can learn her as draconic sorcerer, or wild magic sorcerer. If you have any levels of storm sorcerer she is afraid of you and you can't get the line that attaches her as a common ability.

However, if you follow the instructions above, from the reddit link and other sources you can learn her as a common ability by respeccing (to warlock, wizard or a different subclass of sorcerer to storm) and then respeccing back later.

I've just quickly tested for confirmation that once learned as a common ability you can still summon shovel even after a respec to storm sorcerer:

I've read that it does, but I haven't tried it myself. It will all depend if you can still trigger the line about "spellshite", or if it's somehow been flagged as a spent conversation by other dialogue choices made with shovel, I guess.

ok I just tried:

IT WORKS! I confirm that, if you respec to Wizard (even just staying at lv1 for the sake of this process), you summon Shovel at the camp and interact with her, you just choose all dialogue options "1", she DOES NOT call you "speelshite", but the spell to summon her will appear in your common bar.

*forgot to add: you can then safely respec that to Storm Sorcerer and spell still stays.

i found this thread while trying to get her as a permanent summon on an elf wild magic sorcerer and none of the steps above worked, HOWEVER this worked perfectly:

1. loot scroll, GO TO CAMP, inscribe it in gale's spellbook
2. summon shovel, talk to her as gale, go with the 'Use dialogue options in this order: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1. Basically always 1 and only choose option 2 when option 1 is something along the lines of: "No you will do no such things". ' from reddit post (and don't change her name!)
3. walk over and talk to her on the wild magic sorc and she gives the spell ♥♥♥♥♥ line and the permanent summon spell

for whatever reason, i could not get this to trigger in the basement whether before or after going thru the mirror or picking up the book, but it worked flawlessly in camp!

This. This right here and it was so simple

Beyond being a Necromancer which Shovel would approve of, it's possible to get multiple shovels by having a Wizard scribe the scroll like Gale and then have someone like Wyll talk to Shovel.

My Honour Mode run I've got two. One for my main character who has 1 into Warlock and the other for Gale who is a Bard Wizard.

They aren't super powerful damage wise but can provide a lot of utility when it comes to Invisibility, Fear, opening door / moving stuff during combat and simply taking a hit. Using a Cleric to cast Aid on them and someone with Freedom of Movement and they are pretty decent summons - great for getting sneak attack as well.

Had this on patch 7. Had a 3 sorcerer party and Karlach as a barbarian. You get special dialogue but can't acquire Shovel without any sorcerer although it seems it's a bug because I got it to work before crossing the mirror by doing this:

1. Used Karlach to summon Shovel (any non magic character should work)
2. Completed conversation until shovel told me balsam is good for burns
3. Switched to sorcerer and immediately got the spellshite line after talking to Shovel, got the ability

Easy way.

Shovel doesn't like Storm Sorcs or Wild magic sorcs, have to be Draconic. Summoner her usually after talking to the mirror, Ask about Illy, Don't change her name (Keep it shovel) then pick any option. Talk to her again and she'll talk about how she likes dragons and then you get to keep her. Any other Sorcerer choice besides draconic freaks her out.
