Shovel and Sorcerers: impossible affinity?

I tried all possible combinations I could think of for keeping the cheeky Quasit as permanent summon but no dialogue to keep her appears and once she leaves my service I don't see any change in the hotbar to suggest I gained a permanent summon spell.

So, to cut it short: is it possible to keep Shovel permanently when playing like a Sorcerer?

Short answer in my experience, no.
Unless you learn to scribe scrolls.
Wizards can scribe the scroll.

i have gotten shovel as a permanent summon on my sorc by using another character to go through the usual dialog with her. once that is done swap back to the sorcerer and talk to her and it should give you the option.

OP guess I learned something new, but my wizards like Shovel.

Right. as i had no sorcerer save ready to go through the right steps i had to quickly rush a new save there.

1.) Summon shovel with the character you wish to learn her on(our sorc in this case)
2.) go through the dialog with the sorc once
3.) open the mirror
4.) talk to shovel with a different character. go though the normal dialog tree
5.) talk to shovel with the sorc. you'll get the Spellshite dialog and obtain her as a permanent summon

It's much simpler actually.
Cast the scroll, talk to shovel twice.
The second time, he will recognise that you are a spellcaster, mentioned as, and I quote, a spellshite.
You can now summon him as a common ability if you are / were actually a spellcaster at the time.
You can respec as you like afterwards.
IF you scribe the scroll (and you should not), you cannot summon him without a level of wizard.

that seems to be the case on some classes. on sorc she get's stuck in a different dialog

It does require some respeccing, potentially and one of the two to have a level in wizard.

yeah i was never able to get it. took a level in sorc on the character who she's following, tried every combination of talking to her and walking through the mirror i could think of, nothing.

Tried giving Astarian one level in wizard, talked to Shovel, went through the mirror, yadda yadda yadda, still nothing.

Basically just accepting that when she dies, she dies.

maybe this small update can be useful to someone else: I am playing as Tempest Cleric/Storm Sorcerer and Shovel is absolutely frightened by me, so no option comes up in the dialogue that can lead to a long term contract. She refers at me as "Thunder Master" and cowers in fear.

If you respec out and follow the advice to get shovel as a non-wizard, that should work.

I'm not sure there's any other workaround to the unique storm sorcerer dialogue that locks you out from getting her (him?).

just for the records: after you respec to full wiz and learn the spell, it gets lost once you respec back to storm sorc/tempest cleric.
I am guessing that it is a 'glitch' or something the devs didn't see coming, meaning that you can only obtain the spell if you find Shovel FIRST and pass through the mirror AFTER. If this condition isn't met, you cannot keep her.

Did you learn it as a wizard then respec, or learn it as a common ability then respec?

The advice I saw suggested the latter, because you need to keep 1 wizard level to continue casting it as a wizard.

Each method can be used by one character in the party, so normally you can have 2x shovels, if you aren't trying to give her (him?) to a storm sorcerer.

Here's the trick I've learned to getting Shovel. Learn the spell on Gale and summon her. As soon as you get the option to choose a line of dialogue, choose to leave. Now, talk to Shovel on your caster character that you want her on. She should give you the "spellshite" dialogue. You can't learn her spell on multiple characters if you change her name and it works best if you don't say anything as Gale. Just learn the spell, cast, leave the conversation, talk on your other character.

You don't have to be a Wizard. I've learned the spell on a Rogue with a 1 level dip into Sorcerer.
