How do you get Act 3 to run well?
I'd like to hear some things people have done to try and help performance issues during Act 3. I'm honestly at a loss. I've updated my GPU, verified the game's integrity, lowered a bunch of settings (even tried lowering the resolution), made sure literally nothing else was running in the background, set the game's priority to high in task manager, made sure I had free space on my harddrive, deleted a bunch of old auto and quicksaves, cleaned up my Windows registry. It feels like I've tried everything.

Acts 1 and 2 ran just fine, I was running the game at 40-60 fps on high-ultra settings. Now I'm in Act 3 and even after doing all of that, I can't break 20 fps in almost any area inside of Baldurs Gate. The game usually goes around 10fps if I'm somewhere especially crowded.

Is there something I'm missing? Or do I have to wait for patches or maybe even upgrade my PC? Afaik I met all recommended system requirements, and ran the rest of the game perfectly fine... What gives? Any help is appreciated.

Turn off launcher and vsync. Kill Jaheira in ch2, she can bug out lower city.

Have already turned off the launcher and turned off vsync. I'm already about 5 hours into Act 3... Just got done killing all the doppleganger Harpers in the basement of that weapon shop after Jaheira told me to go there. I have her recruited at my camp.

I have a save right before Act 2 ended, but do I really need to do that to make Act 3 run well? I'd need to redo everything I did in Rivington as well... along with the Emperor encounter.

Bullsh*t about Jaheira, she's fine.

Turn off dynamic crowds and whatever option is near it, don't remember.

Launch dx11 version straight with Administrator rights.

Have 6700k + 1080ti + 16Gb Ram ddr4, runs on 60fps Ultra in 1440p. Check what's your PC, RAM, not just GPU

Have turned off Dynamic Crowds and every other checkbox option directly above it. I'll try launching the game as an administrator.
And my PC has 32gb of DDR4 ram.

I can't fix it either, tried everything. 3080, i7 10700k, 32gb ram, everything set to low, dlss performance, disabled launcher blah blah. still runs like total ass. Gonna have to wait to see if they fix it at all before I keep going which sucks but the constant 20 fps kill off any immersion for me :(

You don’t lol
Greenegg Sep 13, 2023 @ 7:39pm
the longer my play session went in act 3 the more unstable performance seemed to get, restarting the game every 1:30-2 hours seemed to do wonders for performance.

Wait for ACT 1 to be fully patched. :partyboo:
I've put 60+ hrs into act 1 hoping for a patch for this. Took note of all the tips though either way.

I don't know what I did, but I can run some areas in Baldur's Gate with decent 30ish FPS. I did the whole printing press quest thing without too many hiccups... Kinda like what Greenegg said, I think restarting the game often helps a lot. It really shouldn't be that way though
my act3 runs at 15 fps, it's painful to watch and all cutscenes are literally longer because it runs so slow. For example character stops talking but they still be moving their eyes and mouth while cam is freezed for idk 5-10 seconds sometimes

I play on low settings, disabled AA, v-sync on
32gb ram gtx1050

restarting the game helps, because currently the game is full of unpatched memory leaks

and memory leaks are only a tip of the iceberg here. There could be a whole book dedicated to what could be optimized/patched

Not entirely certain what you mean by stutter.

Three fixes will improve act 3 significantly.

In Steam for BG3 select properties and add "--skip-launcher" to disable and bypass the Larian Launcher when you run the game.

The next thing that tends to help is to modify your runtime priority and set it to high. Do not set this any higher.

If using DirectX11 in Windows, you can create text file called bg3.reg or whatever, but the .reg extension is required here for simplicity unless you want to manually do this.

in that text file...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options/bg3.exe/PerfOptions] "CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options/bg3_dx11.exe/PerfOptions] "CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003

Save the file. Click on it to add the keys to your registry.

and lastly disable dynamic crowds in the in-game settings.
