Beastmaster Companion Broke Karlach's Story Quest
So... due to the fact that NPCs can't recognize a pet, wearing armor, from a wild animal. At some point during my playthrough in the Shadow-Cursed Lands Damon just randomly, because he was afraid of my companion, into the Shadow-Curse...

I'm not sure exactly when this happened because initially there was no marker indicating where he was, and the quest stated he had already left for Baldur's Gate and to find him there. Well I was exploring around and found him in a small cabin next to Last Light Inn, but now he's Shadow-Cursed Undead. I lured him back into the protection zone, polymorphed him, and beat him down with unarmed Gale... now I can't talk to him.

Seems like a pretty major bug when Beastmasters have to consistently dismiss their companion, but can only summon it once per short rest. Now I have to run this playthrough with only a fraction of the way through Karlach's quest line.

Very sad.

I could load back approximately 8-12 hours of gameplay... sure. That'd be real fun. Which of these should happen:

A) Players should reload and replay hours of gameplay, clearing 90% of the Gauntlet of Shar, Creche Yllek, infiltrating Moonhaven, etc... or... B) they could just one, fix him still being marked as undead in the files, and stop NPCs from running from companions.

I do agree with NPCs being afraid of simple druid companions, elemental summons and the like, being a bit much. I can understand if they are afraid of cambians, undead, and maybe imp familiars (such as Shovel), but druid companions should be ok. The druid merchant in the grove recognizes your companion and asks if it is a companion or a druid wild shape when you approach, but he doesn't run. Dammon runs from literally everything. it's dumb.

What I don't necessarily agree with, is the fact that Gauntlet of Shar has several auto-saves along the journey, Creche has at least 2 points where it auto-saves, and Moonhaven autosaves when you get close to the main entrance and again when you go up to the roof. To be 8 to 12 hours of gameplay since your last save is kinda on you, especially if none of those places auto-saved, or were just deleted.

ALSO, before I forget.. companions and their pets can be ungrouped and left in a better area so as not frighten NPCs you want to approach.

I agree, I mean those aren’t even some random NPCs, Dammon have been in avernus and seen war and a lot worse things than a bear , on top of the fact that the said bear is coming not on its own but surrounded by a group of people he already met and knows.

Makes no sense at all.

For random npcs walking around town it’s ok, they are simple folks and if they glitch no one would notice .

But an internal blacksmith running in the shadow curse that everyone is aware that it’s lethal because he saw a group of his Allies that he helped a few days back accompanied by a bear…

I don't think you're understanding the issue... I didn't realize he ran off until after 8-12 hours of gameplay when I returned to Last Light Inn. I can load back multiple times through out that period without issue.

I do. That doesn't fix the issue with me, or other players, not realizing he ran into the void until hours of gameplay later.
