Criminal background giving -1 Stealth?

Rolling a Wood Elf Ranger, and when I select Criminal as the background, it shows -1 malus instead of a bonus. Why?

i had that error until i swapped away and came back during creation.

im not sure if its a UI error or if it carries on into the game, but it seems like an easy fix

weird I have no clue, even if you were using heavy armor you would just receive no modifier benefits and get disadvantage on stealth checks

Your assumption with that being an UI error is correct.

I tried making a completely different class, then went back to ranger, changed some things, then changed back to the same stats, and picked criminal background, and it said -1 again. It is very confusing.
