You won't get the 'full' story on one play through though, since the factions are generally mutually exclusive and you do eventually have to choose a side even if that means choosing yourself and killing everyone else.
Listen to them, because a wide variety of skills come into play, including being able to talk to animals so just do whatever and it'll work out.
Also picking an origin character will get you various options and cinematics you won't normally see with a created character.
A less charismatic character may have less chances of convincing characters or talking them down from a fight because they aren't as skilled in that department does not mean that they are missing out on story beats. It means they are experiencing different story beats than a charismatic or more perceptive and insightful character would. Those story beats may actually be more memorable and interesting because of how creative we can be in dealing with problems as they come up.
