IF you use your tadpole or you roll perception several times with her throughout the game, you learn that her hard exterior is hiding a huge fear that she will never live up to the expectations of her society. Shes insecure and puts on a mask.
No, this does not justify being a jerk ill give ya that. But i do think it shows some potential ways of redemption and loyalty. She thinks of her way of life is superior... the githyanki patrol fight may be the beginning of her descent to a bit of humility.
She is one of the best companions out of the five currently available. If you don’t play a melee as your main character she is damn near essential to your party.
Weird way to spell Shadowheart
But that's Clerics in general. In 5e they're kinda nuts. Radiance of the Dawn from Light Clerics alone turns them into walking bombs and it is beautiful.
Im not saying she doesnt have unique or useful stuff but I find potions to be completely sufficient substitute for shadowheart (did you know you can throw potions at teammates to heal them)?
Astarion I don't like at all as of now. I try to like him, but I find him pretty annoying. I hope he gets better in act 2, but if he doesn't get better then I'm handing him over to that monster hunter in every playthrough.
She has very good stats, her racial abilities give fighter really good movement options (mage hand, jump, misty step) and Battle master is rally strong sub-class that with her great-weapon focus hits like a truck.
She's pretty much optimal fighter.
Other then wyll, she probably my most liked companion. She comes across as the most honest, she seems like an onion of a character, that is she seems to have layers.
The vamp guy is the guy I kill right off. He comes across as too self centered and selfish. Plus he seems to thieve constantly with no regard to others.
I wish there was more options on how to deal with his transgressions. They sort of keep playing off that what he does isn't a big deal, despite crossing norms that would have dire consequences.
To be fair, anyone who didn't immediately try to kill him or tell him to ♥♥♥♥ off would likely be willing to tolerate his antics. Accepting him after he tried to trick and have his way with you is quite the barrier for entry.
