O...k....its getting ridiculous. Guess I'm getting too old for this ♥♥♥♥...
I didn't lose anything tho, I just made a thread that generated 3 pages already and I learned something new without having to actually read the article or google search the topic myself
win, in my book
Yeah, WotC have become a joke of a company. I and my D&D groups are moving to Pathfinder.
Crawford did say they were uncomfortable with half races which is momsensical.
Not sure why they are uncomfortable. As races, they just exist.
*thumbsup* Stopped playing D&D with 3.5 and then switched to Pathfinder (1st Edition back then), though I did read thorugh 4th and 5th edition corerules.
While my groups have tried other game systems, we always come back to Pathfinder 1st edition. It has the best DnD feel to us.
Ah well, WotC will do as WotC does. At this point I'm just watching what happens. It's not like WotC has any goodwill left after the constant debacles they've gotten involved in over the years. They have burnt a lot of bridges with the community.
It's high fantasy, not taxonomy.
If anyone is actually wondering what the new rules for half-breeds are, here you go:
CHILDREN OF DIFFERENT HUMANOID KINDS
Thanks to the magical workings of the multiverse, Humanoids of different kinds sometimes have children together. For example, folk who have a human parent and an orc or an elf parent are particularly common. Many other combinations are possible. If you’d like to play the child of such a wondrous pairing, choose two Race options that are Humanoid to represent your parents. Then determine which of those Race options provides your game traits: Size, Speed, and special traits. You can then mix and match visual characteristics—color, ear shape, and the like—of the two options. For example, if your character has a halfling and a gnome parent, you might choose Halfling for your game traits and then decide that your character has the pointed ears that are characteristic of a gnome. Finally, determine the average of the two options’ Life Span traits to figure out how long your character might live. For example, a child of a halfling and a gnome has an average life span of 288 years
Yes and no.
What is new is WotC announcing that they are officially removing half-elf and half-orc from the PHB in 2024 and the content creator summit that just happened basically says the reason for it is because the sensitivity readers at WotC have determined that half-races as a playable race with their own unique features and traits is inherently racist.
At the very least, I hope they take some pointers from the implementation in PF2e, which I like a lot more than how it has typically been done because it allows you to combine traits from other paired ancestries besides the de facto human.
