Counting the companions
So far I believe we have Wyll(warlock), Laezel(fighter), Gale(wizard), Astarion(rogue), and Shadowheart(cleric) in the game along with Karlach(barbarian), Minsc(ranger), and Jaheira(druid) coming as well. That is 8. Any word on helia? Do you think they'll announce more by release? I also noticed that all of these confirmed companions are different classes. Even helia is supposed to be a bard. This means that there could potentially be a monk, sorcerer, and Paladin companion since those are the only three classes without an assigned companion.

I think Minsc and Jaheira are only camp followers, like Halsin.

That would be a huge blueball moment, from how hyped they both were in the trailer.

Actually they confirmed minsc will join the party, but he wont have a mind flayer parasite and thus wont be origin character. Jaheira tho seems to be mearly npc based on her ”we can only hope next generation takes up our mantle when we get too old for this” (paraquoting)

Never mind both can be recruited: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/the-time-to-play-baldurs-gate-3-is-nigh-with-full-release-due-in-august-2023

Hyped to appear in the game yes, but why would they be companions? They should be level 20 by now..

If they're level 20, hanging out at our camp would be immersion-breaking to an extreme extent. Why would we be the ones to go out and battle when our camp followers are infinitely more capable of the same?

I feel like Helia is scrapped at this point. But I don't mind being pleasantly surprised.

I also think we'll get a ton of camp followers but no more companions other than this set.

Why do people think Karlach is a barbarian? Did I miss something?
IgnatiusJ.Reilly 22/mai./2023 às 13:06
Unfortunately, with regard to Minsc and Jaheira, the German word used might be interpreted as 'follower' or 'companion', or at least that's what I was told. However, I imagine that at least one of them will be potential party members. Karlach being 'tadpoled' I think signals her as a companion or party member.

As far as the rest, we have no idea really. Larian is not very forthcoming with regard to potential companions. I guess they see it as a story spoiler. But, I don't think it's any more spoiling than revealing one of the Big Bad Evil Guys, which they've already done.

Last year there was a Karlach card released in a MTG set that labeled her as barbarian

I thought that Minsc would be a companion just not an origin character. In general I think thats a good direction to go. I dont think every companion should be designed with the ability to play AS them.

Ah, the aspect of WotC I pay no attention to, that would explain it. That does simplify things for me, since my choice for my PC was between barbarian or paladin.
