It comes up from the very beginning all throughout Early Access. I've already mentioned drow, but if you're gith, it's very different as well. Shadowheart is immediately distrustful, Lae'Zel treats you slightly better, and the refugees at Lae'Zel's cage are hostile to you from the get go, and you get special interactions when dealing with the refugees.
Now, go through the dozens of options offered in the mod, and you have to go through the entire script and write new, appropriate reactions and options, and in a script as vast as BG3's is looking to be, that's no small task.
i'm nota talking about meta, i'm talking about the ABILITY to roleplay when other races get unique reactions/interactions and you see the race you chose have none that sucks, so consistency is necessary so that everyone feels good and has a chance to do that.
also you're assuming that they would be implemented the way the mod other does, it may not be the case, for example the elves in the game have different movement to the humans something almost nobody would care if they did or not, there is no telling what they would do to each of those races to make them more unique rather then just appearance, so speculation on the armour and how easy it would be to readjust is pure speculation so i'm going to leave it at "that could be alot of work or not depending on indepth larian would be in adding them"
My point being i'm roleplaying just fine with my non meta pick for my class & race. Granted no one in pathfinder cares about your race outside of free units you get for crusade mode.
Yes i'm assuming it would when the mod show cases races wearing the same armor of their unmodded game counter parts. Example you said elves,They have multiple different elven races in the mod that can wear the same armor as the base game elves. So my assumption is valid because you can download the mod & see for yourself. You don't have to take my word, try it out. I linked it at the top of the post
Leave it for the modder fanbois.
I didn't mean about the companions i don't consider them npcs, i consider them pm's.
So you say the npcs refugees are outright hostile to you from the get go but how are they hostile, are they saying specific racial slurs? or are they just being vague? like "oi knife ears" so it can apply to everyone that has long ears.
No, they're hostile to you because you're githyanki, who have a reputation in universe for being merciless warriors. It's literally custom dialogue and reactions tailored specifically for a githyanki player character and not the surface level stuff in Wrath, which focuses way more on the mythic paths and alignment for reactivity.
Variety.
No he hasn't done Aarakocra yet but so far the most beastly thing he has is a playable minotaur & the Kuo-toa,He keeps adding stuff to the list. like he has Leszi,Balverines & gnolls on the list for a few examples
Ah ok so two races out of the 9 that the majority of the npcs treat you uniquely.
I assume if you went a dwarf that shrinks to how often someone brings it up. I understand your point,I'm just gauging the difference between the normal races & a unique race
Yeah for wrath,i can't recall race being a factor in anything outside of getting some units for crusade mode. everyone treats you the same no matter your race & only react to your dialogue choice which yes is boring. I was only using that to highlight i'm having fun role playing as my current race & class.
If i was playing dragon age origins i would use that as a better example for that conversation since that would be more akin to bg3
- Thats fine, but you're not everyone is my point.
- I'm not purely taking animations though i'm saying they might make small edits to the anatomy to make them unique, the elves was just an example of larian going beyond to make each race feel unique even when it's a minor difference.
Tieflings also get unique dialogue from NPCs, and it remains to be seen how much reactivity will be present for all the other races, both existing and those yet to be revealed, in the full game.
Fair point,God i would love it if the game came out now but i also don't want a buggy mess of a game XD
+ True i can role play almost as any race with any build & i'm aware some people can only role play as certain races. i kinda feel like "my kind" are larger than the latter just due to people able to enjoy their hobbies the way they want but then again if "my kind" were the majority then there wouldn't be so many games where we are forced to play the same good races over & over again but i guess since i'm more flexible,i'm more easier to slot into any game : l so yeah idk i would have to see a poll on the subject.
- I don't think he touches the animations, for the "sub races" the mod brings in for the base game races. Like for the elves he just changes the skin colors & adjust their stats + their racials,i would have to bring it up but there is a human with pure jet black eyes.
I understand your point he isn't making any new animations nor is he making new armor to fit the modded races,He is purely using what the game itself offers.
Like i can't wait for this game to come out so me & my buds can do a co op run. I would love to be a minotaur that can be decked out in full plate armor & become a holy dreadnought for my group but with his current limitations he can only use the barbarian armor sets for that specific race, which i think that is 1 of the 3 races for that mod that cannot rock all the armor types.
The other two are ogresh & kuo-toa(would have to find his post on it to confirm that one)
The number of folks that use the non-tolkienesque races is vanishingly small, though Half-Orc and Dragonborn did place on list at very small partial percentages. It's just the nature of the beast when adding to the game based on known resources available to do so.
I'm surprised that Drow and Githyanki made it in, but I bet Larian makes heavy use of those races in BG3.
Ah i was not aware they did a poll,I'll look up the most recent one & compare it to older polls to see if there will be any potential races for me to enjoy later on in this games life.
Yeeeeeah i feel you,It's a shame. I prefer monstrous characters but have to always play the normal 3,human,smaller human & slightly taller human with pointy ears. Mind you i love dwarves & dark elves(mainly the warhammer fantasy dark elves)
I do enjoy dragonborn due to it being something different.
