Best I can suggest is to simply not cast it in situations where there are friendlies that might walk into it like brainless morons. There are other, less dangerous combat spells a druid or cleric can make use of.
You can stop concentrating on a spell at any time, there is an icon under your portrait with an X on it that will stop these spells immediately.
Hence why I was wondering if memory served. Legit don't recall if Moonbeam is concentration or not. If it isn't you can't cancel it, it just has to run it's course.
I used wall of flame to section off most of the battlefield, and i forgot concentration spells persisted after combat. Dear old Halsin walked straight through it and roasted himself resulting in a failed quest. Had a good laugh afterwards but it was still mildly annoying.
Multiple smaller instances with cloud of daggers too. There should be an option you can tick that will dispel concentration spells when combat ends.
See here section Cancel Concentration Spells to deal with it

Still, when you end combat there is 1 turn cooldown irrc before acrivating another turn based mode. Many bad things can happen on that cooldown turn/
I agree, it's really bad design. The spell you're concentrating on should be more visible in the UI
just gotta be super careful what spells you use around innocents
