Easily my least favorite quest in the game. Brilliant idea. Terrible design and execution.

For folks like me who just want to cheese the quest for the story and don't care to waste time and resources on tactician mode,

just fly to the roof and use the door to access the top floor right next to the objective. Put Oskar's picture on the easel, open the chest, read the note, burn the cursed painting.

Or just kill Oskar in act 1 and don't waste your time. There are so many design problems with this quest not even considering the obvious technical problems that it's not really worth it to complete.

I liked the quest. It was a very cool experience, AoE spells helped a lot.

Go straight for Oskar's room, use Remove Curse on skulls, AOE everything.

Doesn't help that I have see invisibility by default on my player character because I let Volo operate.

Also, why can't you remove curse on the damned painting with Shadowheart!? Bonehead move designing the quest to break core rules of the DND universe to make the quest work.

I'd be fine with the quest if I could actually get close to the skulls without being thrown through the floors. I assume it's bugged given that I couldn't even get close to the skulls to remove curse(even with jump AND the Torch that's supposed to make the quest easier, it didn't), and the "knockback" threw me through multiple levels of the house.

The reward wasn't even that good. The rare +2 hand crossbow I pilfered from the safe downstairs was the only thing of actual value.

This is literally unplayable. Stunningly awful. How is it possible this is in the game? The enemy moves literally take 2 minutes each. Just shockingly terrible.

Yes, that's the problem. If the enemies just took their turn in 2 seconds it would be more bearable. But not, they can take up to a entire minute to move. Larian in one of the patches even said that enemies taking too long to make their turn was fixed, apperently it's not.

I walked past this house, was forced into combat, went inside, realised my mistake, reloaded a previous save and ignored the entire place. All because having perm See invis actually makes the house crazy annoying and terrible and a massive waste of time for no reward.

However, from what I hear is if you don't have see invis, the quest can be done in 2 minutes or less

The problem is the way enemy AI works in general. if they can't get to you, sometimes they dash and end their turn fast, other times it can take 5 minutes for them to do this.

In the house, the things are not supposed to attack you at all, causing ALL of them to take 1-5minutes.....

yep, and the fact you need an item from an unrelated story and quest. Just appallingly bad writing. Also would not let my exit - I learnt killing Oskar ends the quest then I reloaded an earlier save. Its a tedious, stupid quest, so bloody boring. Its great idea I grant you but the execution is one of the worst in any game.

"Forced into combat"?

Just walk on by. When you get out of range you will drop back out of combat.

If your tav is given a particular skill that you cannot turn off by aforementioned gameplay choices this is not possible hence the entire rant.

Dude, it is *entirely* possible to just walk on by. The game may put you into combat mode, but so what? If you just walk away, you drop back out of combat mode.

(Edit: I suppose it could be a minor issue if you had some uncontrollable summons, like those four Thayan ghouls.)
