Any spell you cast using a cleric slot uses the Wisdom stat.
Any spell you cast using a wizard slot uses the Intelligence stat....
There must be a pattern here somewhere...
When you cast wizard spells - using te wizard slots - you use INT for them. If you use scrolls directly, I don't know what will be used.
All bards get 2 picks of magical secrets at L10, but the College of Lore gets 2 picks of magical secrets at L6 too.
I went with Fireball and Hex (yes, Hex!) for my CoS Bard.
lightning bolt and haste. because water makes it twice as good as fireball.
But there's no need for you to play the same way other people do. If you'd rather take spiritual weapon and armor of Agathys, go for it! Best wishes and good luck as you make your way through the game.
Counterspell and Fireball
(edit)
Also Counterspell and Lightning Bolt
Also Counterspell and Spirit Guardians
Run into the middle of enemies and lay about as the enemies take both radiant (or necrotic) and weapon damage.
The amount of Counterspell suggestions makes me think maybe I shouldn't have picked Fireball and chosen Counterspell instead...
I chose Hex specifically because my Sword Bard has trouble using up all her spell slots before everyone else needs to long rest, as it's a good use for level 1 slots while still letting me do what I want, melee.
